Or how about the often spoken of but never seen 15 minute mobile welding repair job that you can hit on your way home. After all, it takes at least 15 minutes to get everything off the truck and at least 15 minutes to pack all back up, plus doing the job.But hey, they think they’re doing you a favor to offer you $20 and maybe a cheap, nasty beer.

I think point went over the heads of many; I’ve always heard you couldn’t weld this stuff because of it’s impurities (junk added as filler during casting). This is proof if you are talented you can make it happen 👍!

farily easy and good way of getting rid of pin holes is to drill them with usually 5mm-6mm dia drill bit :) No need to go trough of course, just slight "countersink". Fill up the point with weld and job done :) My mentor showed me this few years back and I'm happy using it as I can get fully hidden welding :)

Hey man, a question if you don't mind, please. What filtration system do you have your compressed air running through? I ask because, I haven't got a "best of everything shop" as of yet (but working towards it 😉), but I would not trust the air in my system to not leave some deposit on my weld or work piece. I really only use my air supply for air tools and blowing chips off of machines. The tools of course get oiled and the machines wiped down and cleaned between set ups so the air for those are a non issue. And off course this particular project is part of a flag pole however, a sound weld is a sound weld and to achieve that end carelessness is thine enemy! Any insights as to the level of "clean/filtered" compressed air would be most appreciated and, I thank you for your time and indulgence. ✌️
@60612 жыл бұрын
No filter. Unless your compressor consumes oil (wore out), you shouldn't have problems. Drain the water regularly or use a good separator.

I don't know a thing about welding but I enjoy your videos! I wonder why do you use the air blower? Is it for cooling it down or to remove dust?
@ElizabethGreene3 жыл бұрын
Welding makes the part hot and he uses a blowgun to cool it down. This makes it easier to handle and helps with warping.
@RonCovell3 жыл бұрын
@@ElizabethGreene One additional benefit of cooling the part is to keep it under control. Sometimes a hot part will simply 'melt away' before you can lay down your filler material where you want it to go.

How about doing a Cast Ally Cylinder Head weld demo. I saw one guy do some chamber work on a head with straight argon, he liberally ground out the porous material and without any preheating he welded a clean high penetration weld in about a minute to fix the head. I had previously tried with my 275amp welder and whilst I can do with alot of helium in the mix, there is no way I can with straight argon unless a massive preheat. I must be missing something.

Question: Normally your tack welds are shiny, but these had black stuff like ash around them. Is it because of the cast alloy? Also, I'm glad you're posting again!
@60613 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, Yes, it is because of the impurities in the cast alloy. When liquefied, it draws in and mixes with the filler rod metal, leaving a hazy, contaminated tack weld.
@ElizabethGreene3 жыл бұрын
