I am so thankful for videos such as these. They offer a plethora of useful knowledge on welding processes and the different applications they are used on. However, I am very disappointed on where this nation is heading as far as employment is concerned. For example, I am 26 years old and I am trying to get into a local union here as a pipe welder/pipe fitter. I have extensive skills in welding and have a lot of potential; for the life of me I cannot find any welding employment in my state- Washington. We as a nation need to put emphasis on training a new generation of skilled craftsmen. Getting into a union is near impossible, and I have the skills, experience, and potential to be trained as a pipe welder. I wont stop trying. Anyways, thank you for the videos. I love watching and learning.

Welcome to the United States... there isn't a shortage of welders; that is a lie told by the welding schools. The problem is there is a shortage of work and if you don't know the right people you won't get on any of the work that is out there... ASME code pipe welder here... having to just trudge my way through the neck deep bull shit of this industry. If I could go back and change it all I damn sure would.

@ElConquistador2410 жыл бұрын
The union here is unbelievably hard to get into and they lay off at least twice a year. Thank you for the info. Union pipe trades is what I want to do for my career. And I might move to do that. Texas or ohio?

excuse me, hot pass still 6010 ? I will probably never weld any pipe, but learn so much on general welding "state of mind" , Big thanks For the fill, you need to touch lightly each side to be sure to dig in the wall and the toe ? I like how you take care that the slag roll by itself until you need to push it away , that is an amazing show of knowledge

Why couldn't you do FCAW on a pipe in the oil and refinery world, would it work or would porosity be a problem?

Thanks for the video. I am 69 and not going to be a professional pipe welder, BUT I am learning as much as I can, as I find it completely enjoyable. Also, being a club member of a thrashing bee show I have had the opportunity to attempt welding various old engines and carts. TIG welding a cast iron piston with a missing piece. Now back to a question - I was not sure of the angle the rod was held at during the passes. it appeared to be at a 90 to the pipe, like a radius movement. Is that about right? Thanks again!

bobs a master welder and drags that root in there, is dragging the best way to put that root in there? if so, why?
@beaker17368 жыл бұрын
whatever gets the job done is the best way whip and pause steady drag, i used a drag on the bottom of the pipe then once i get to about the 4 or 5 o clock on the pipe i start whipping and pausing and turn the amps down a bit

I am certified in 6g sch 40 pipe. I just recently moved to Las Vegas Nevada but cannot find any work. I'm not sure where to look
@gregg416410 жыл бұрын
Did you receive and certify from a previous employer? did you test independently and pay for the certification yourself? If a previous employer paid for your cert, he then owns that certification. You can not transfer that to another employ. In the UA Pipe trades we certify at the union schools and those certifications belong to us and can go with us from job to job and contractor to contractor. Where and how you got your cert determines whether you can continue to use it or not. there are also other qualifications needed. 6G sch 40 pipe is only a small cert. What size? What wall thickness. That cert is limited to the specifics of what you tested on.

Your not allowed to use a grinder or file on the finished cap pass. If your high it fails. If there are grinding or file marks on the finished cap pass it fails.
