Thanks for the video. I've tried it before using a cigarette lighter and I found it really hard to get the balance between not melting it enough to be sure of a good bond, and burning it. The hair straighteners technique looks easier, I'll have to try it.

The Hair Straighteners are perfect. They heat to 180oC. The main part is to just get the right pressure on the weld [Don't Squeeze too hard and roll the weld around the straighteners. I've tried all the other methods, all are more fiddly than this.

@@IanGordonsalmonfishing Thanks Ian. Having never done it before, I think I'll feel nervous about the strength right up until the fish is on the bank.

@@MalcolmPowder I reckon you'll be fine, even if the thing falls apart there's little or no chance of the other loop coming detached whilst under strain. It will be 100% fine.

Update: the one I did with the cigarette lighter held up to a week's fishing (albeit not tested with a fish). But I've just redone it with the hair straighteners, and it looks perfect. Far easier than the lighter. Thanks again.

Well done! Ian What size is the shrink wrap, they come in all sorts of sizes and may affect the loop ?

Ian, why dont you use clear shrink tubing, then you can see whats going on. Or did you run out?

Aye, thats what happened. This was all I had at the time. I've got some more clear now.
