Welding a Coastal Off-Road Front Bumper for a Lexus GX470! | Built By KC

Today is all about welding together our new Coastal Off Road front bumper for my 2005 Lexus GX470! This build will slowly turn into more of camping and dedicated media vehicle as time goes on, but right now we are tackling a front bumper so we have a place to mount our new FE3 SAE Dual Mode Fog Light!

There front bumper kit was my first welding project on my gx470. It's a nice kit, but I got the full bar option. Notching those tubes was a bitch

Yo bro! How long of a process was this, start to finish? I love this bumper, but don't weld & need a fab shop to do it ..looking to get accurate quotes from local shops

So, 2-3 coats of automotive primer, clean/rough, then 3-5 coats of bed liner spray? Was there any other kind of sealer or paint on top of the bed liner spray? Thanks!

Can you weld it together and then change out the bumper or do you have to weld as you go?

Yes it is all still bolt on, so after its welded together you can just take it off!

Do these bumpers need to be certified for on road driving or just off road purposes? Air bag compliant?

Here in the states the only bumpers that are compliant are the ones from Australia, down there they are forced to do crash testing, but in the states there is no compliance so hardly any are crash test rated. Any of the weld-yourself-kits especially, since at the end of the day it is all custom and the company cannot stand behind all welders who tackle these. If crash tests and air bag compliancy is something you're looking for I would suggest looking into ARB bumpers! - Jacob
