Welding a New Sill on my K11 Micra

After cutting open the old sill to find it was way rustier than expected 5 months ago, I finally got a new one and welded it to the car. In this video, I go through the process of that.
Nowhere near a perfect result, but it was a good learning experience, and for doing the whole thing in the driveway, I'm happy with the result.

Mate. As a painter by trade who was responsible for the finishing touches on panelbeaters repairs like this, I’ve got to say this is really impressive. You’re young and you’re doing it on your driveway. Most guys your age will do an oil change or paint brake calipers at most on the driveway. It’s not an industry standard job but I respect it and your growth. Good on you for tackling this job on your driveway. That’s brave af!

Try to keep your tig at 45° ish, pushing it tip forwards as welding, your filler shouldn't leave your shielding gas until it cools, and keep the filler about 90° to the torch. It sucks to start at, bit it gets alot better with experience. Love the progress.

Got the sill to do on my Micra was going to patch again but might do as you have and put full sill on

It's actually not too bad to do, way less hassle than trying to weld good metal to rusty metal, been there myself patching up the other sill, wasn't nice. 🤣 Good luck.

I've considered doing it using some VW rear callipers to have the handbrake buit in to the calliper. But it really isn't necessary for my type of build and I've heard the VW callipers are harder to get to lock up using the handbrake, so maybe I wont do it🤣

It's a YesWelder TIG-205D tig welder, cheap welder but can get fairly good results.

Not quite a £50 welder, but I did find it on Amazon. The cheapest one that also looked genuine, fairly decent bang for buck.😆
