This is completely the problem - the metal is thin to begin with and then it's corroded to boot. I've been doing the same and have found it a bit easier turning down the current (20A). It's still easy to blow through though. The truly difficult thing is in sealing it so it no longer blows. This I have yet to manage. Great vid and thanks for sharing!

I've been a welder for 45+ years and I would have had a hard time welding a rusted out tailpipe like that and making it look good with a little stick welder and 6011 rods.

Take the unit OFF at the flange joint. How much can a flange gasket cost anyway?

HELLO ! I noticed that your self-darkening welding mask does not have an external protective glass, so you will damage the self-darkening filter. When welding with an electrode, it would be a little easier to weld with a type 6013 or Mol 309 type electrode. But otherwise, you welded it together beautifully.

I would trash that muffler and just install a glasspack can and be done! But then again, did you notice the healthy tow bar?

The 2 Part Appoxy JB weld would have worked also and dries in 30 mins, but you need the pack thats got 2 tubes and you mix together and it Turns Grey. And just rub it on with finger with a rubber glove on.

Given the conditions...you did excellent! Would you recommend that a stick welder or a flux core welder for car exhaust? and are you happy with that welder in this video so far?
@akawireguy11979 ай бұрын
Flux core is only easier if you have a machine with settings low enough for thin materials. My Campbell Hausfeld for instance only has two settings. Way too hot and way way way too hot. It would burn through that tissue paper exhaust instantly even on low range.

flux core works great, turn it down and spot stitch it on to keep from burning through

The weld is not the best or strongest but it is definitely stronger than your tow hitch. Hopefully you have removed or replaced the hitch by now because as it is it is an accident just waiting to happen.

yes, you suck at welding, however you got it stuck back so good on ya. btw, would have been easier to do if you removed the muffler and pipe and did it in the comfort of the shop.
