Some like really tight ripple spacing. Some prefer loose ripple spacing.
Which is better?
In my opinion neither is right or wrong. But extremely loose ripple spacing could be an issue.
Heat input is affected greatly by travel speed so if limiting heat input is the most important concern,...and loose ripple spacing is the result, then it might not be such a bad thing.
It boils down to the application, acceptance criteria, and personal preference.

Hey Jodi, I just wanted to say thank you. I own a technology consulting company, and am a software engineer by Education and trade; however, I've been following your channel for years now. Thanks to you and the great videos videos, and taught myself how to stick two pieces of metal together with my AHP TIG welder (A welder I am not!). Thanks to you, I've avoid a whole lot of head scratching due to your videos about what happens to metal when it welded. My first project was making my welding table from "fall down" I picked up from my local fabrication shop for free. The final dimensions are 6 feet long and 4 feet wide and 4 feet tall. The top was two pieces of 2' x 7' 3/8" cold rolled plate that I welded butt welded together long end; and it didn't sag or crown down the weld either! The legs and supports comprise a bunch 1 foot (long) 2 inch cold rolled angle; that I stuck back together end for end. Using my Oxy/Acel cutting torch, and watching your gas cutting torch videos many many times, I cut 12 inches of off the end of the two pieces of plate barely jagged, I cleaned it up with a file, put a nice radius on the corners so I wouldn't impale myself when I ran into it, and gouged 4 holes for my vise. I could write volumes about how your videos have enriched my skill set as well as my productivity. That was two years ago, since then I've made special tools aiding in my productivity to restore old Jags (cars). Tools that have been out of circulation for 20 plus years. I've patched rust holes in suspension housings and quarter panels on these old Jags. It's a long winded, thank you; but thank you. Sincerely, Jag Mods

Thanks Jody! I bought the clear cup kit from your store a while back and they are nice! Plus, I'm about 10 years older than you and it does help me to see around the weld puddle better. With the " cheater " lenses that fit into the welding helmet and the clear tig cups I'm doing pretty good for the type of welding that I do! Thanks again, Bill

I love the finish up, pulling back on the finished weld and off the side eliminates the shrinkage hole on the last puddle. Well done

I wonder if the heat effected the zone more that the CFH flow rate. Was the aluminum allowed to cool before each change? So go 3.5 times the cup size for CFH? I think at some point it's going to pull air in to the gas sheilding area due to high air flow vortexing. Greae stuff Jody as always...

Nicely done. Camera shots are great. I was taught and still use the 80% puddle coverage. Anything less than that tends to be weaker. Tight and even.

Where I work, the fat dimes are not allowed. Like you said, they believe it encourages tears when the joint is stressed. We used high nickel alloys for extreme heat applications, and that just magnifies any stress by all the heat cycling that goes on.

Hi Jody. Another great video. Would you kindly produce one with a 'making off' of your arc videos? Believe some of your subscribers would like to get hints on how to film properly an arc. Yours seems as a camera moving with your head, s it is clearly the view the welder would have. And the filter - achieving that great quality remembers my ESSB Sentinel A50 - 'true color'.

Awesome video but I was gonna ask what you think about the edges of the weld I'm in school and I ran a weld that was more on that more flat side like yours and my instructor said he would like me to add more filler and make the weld be rounded so the edges dont potentially become cracks when force is applied and I was wondering what you thought about that

So here is a quick question for you, why are your tig torches so loud? And what I mean by that is why does the sound of the argon come though so strong on the video? Is that just due to how you have the mic setup, but I have never noticed that sound when I weld. Flow meter shows the correct gas flow, I have never really had any gas coverage issues. I'm just curious why is it so loud on video!
