A little late to the party, but I have to comment that for any weld (test or otherwise) you shouldn't ever burn off your tag end. The tag end is the end with the material identification stamp. There are many places where your weld will be rejected and potentially cut out if the filler material can not be identified. Other than that, great video, and thank you for taking the time to make this video. You are an asset to our craft. 👍👍

i just want to add this up, to help pass the bend test you have to follow the WPS. you don't want your weld to become so hot cause it will become brittle. so even if your weld pass the RT there's a tendency that your weld will fail in the Bend test if your weld exceed the maximum heat that the wps required you to follow. if you notice that your weld specimen is so hot then stop and let it cool. that's why you have the tempil stick, infrared thermometer etc... I'm not an expert, this is just based from my experienced and hopefully will help others to pass. great video. keep it up. cheers🤘

I know that feeling of Heartbreakers, it just reaches the apex of the bend while you are looking at your beautiful work and then pop and it splits. Heartbreakers. Been in the business for a few years, started at 20 years old, still in it but retired. Have my own shop and do lathe and milling, 71 years old now so you do the math. But do enough of the welding exactly like you did and you can weld anything. I've been on jobs requiring 316ss. Purged every weld x-rayed and we ran miles of it. You get so good you are walking the cup and in your mine you are walking on a beach with a beautiful girl. Just becomes second nature. Doing a 6g weld is a little tuff but stay focused and you will make it. By the way you are a very accomplished welder, I like your technique. You will go far, just don't burn your eyes out. You would be surprised at the different ways that will give you eyeburns. One question I have, you make it a point to keep your tungsten sharp. Looks like your grind is about 5 degrees? I ground mine at 5. Kept a 1/2" threaded nipple capped with a couple dozen 2% thoreated tungsten in it on the job. Keep up the great work.

Each to their own big dog but have u ever tried fittin it and running it just like carbon, I recently switched to that technique and it’s working better for me and quicker 5/32 gap 1/8 filler about 6o amps no key hole just backfeed it like carbon. Been doing this for a couple weeks all the welds are shooting no issues just a FYI.

You do a great job with your videos but I want to throw this out there. For ASME Sec. IX which is referenced by B31.X codes, the male "plunger" should be 6 times the wall thickness of the specimen. By the looks of the video, you are using a standard 1-1/2" wide plunger (Used for 3/8"). Please forgive me if I'm wrong. Just thought it may be something for you to look into. The plunger would be .536" for 6" schedule 10. Your bends would be 3/4" wide or 1-1/2" so just by comparison during the video, something is off. At 30:51 the strip is not as wide as the ram is what caught my eye. Understand this though, there are MANY COMPANIES testing using the wrong bend dimensions. Keep up the good work. You have my dream job!

Also on that Stainless if you keep that filler in the gas flow until it cools you won't need to trim it because it won't sugar but the second its out of the gas flow and it sugars its gotta be trimmed.
