Hi Rachel, I'm new to your videos and I'm really enjoying them. This was so useful as an introduction to crackle, but what I don't understand is why one would use it. Is it a structure that lends itself to certain visual effects? Is it better or worse for certain types of fabric? Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Hi Karen -- thanks! No it's not better or worse than anything else -- it's just one of the many types of blocks weaves out there that we learn. It's blockier and generally larger motifs than overshot, which can be quite effectively. Traditionally crackle was used for liturgical wear b/c of the strong crosses one can create!

Hey, Rachel. How is it that whenever I watch an episode of Welford Weaves, my wish list at Thriftbooks grows longer? lol

I know right?! I feel like I'm constantly buying old weaving books -- the trouble is some are really really expensive!
