The more I listen to Andrew Peterson's Resurrection Letters Vol. 1 album-my favorite post-millenial inspirational album-the more I am awed by his theologically rich songs. This example features images of the suffering Messiah in David's prophetic Psalm 22. Peterson subsequently connects those images to the comforting words found in Hebrews 1:2, where we discover that the Son of God endured the cross for the joy that was set before him. Because of Christ's selflessness, obedience, and love, he alone deserves to be called "good and faithful servant." And it is his goodness that opens the path for us to become servants of God as well. . .This album ranks right up there with the best of Keith Green and Rich Mullins, whose ears and hearts would rejoice upon hearing these beautiful songs.

"3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." Titus 3:4-7.

This is my "life verse". (All four verses!) This is the scripture that sums up the beauty of a relationship with Christ to me.

"Well Done, Good And Faithful" Why has my God, my soul forsook, nor will a smile afford Thus David once in anguish spoke and thus our dying Lord Oh, it's your chief delight to dwell among your praising saints And yet your hear us groan as well and pity our complaints Our fathers trusted in your name and great deliverance found But he's a worm despised of men who trot him to the ground Men shake their heads and pass him by and laugh his soul to scorn "In vain he trusts in God," they cry, neglected and forlorn But you are he who formed his flesh by your own mighty word And since he hung upon the breast his hope was in the Lord Why would his father hide his face when foes stand threatening 'round In his dark hour of deep distress and not a helper found Why, oh why, my God? Why, oh why, my God? For the joy set before him he endured And is seated at the right hand of the throne Well done, good and faithful, well done Well done, good and faithful one Behold your dear one left alone with the cruel and the proud As mighty bulls so fierce and strong, as lions roaring loud For mirth and hell and sorrows meet to multiply the pain They nail his hands, they pierce his feet and mock him yet again Yet if your sovereign hand let loose a rage in earth and hell Why would my Heavenly father bruise the son he loved so well? He prayed in dark Gethsemane, "Withhold this bitter cup" But he resigned his will to thee and drank the sorrows up Our savior cried with David's grief, "In groans I waste my breath Thy hand has brought me down beneath the bitter dust of death" And then he gave his spirit up to trust it in your hand His dying flesh reposed in hope, to rise at your command Why, oh why, my God? Why, oh why, my God? For the joy set before him he endured And is seated at the right hand of the throne Well done, good and faithful, well done Well done, good and faithful, well done Well done good and faithful one

Musically, lyrically, and theologically this is excellent. There is a lack of true, authentic lament in our modern Christian music, populated as it is with chipper major chords and dime store theology. Thank you for this offering.

In Psalm 22, David prophetically describes the anguish of Christ on the cross. Isaac Watts then rendered this already Christ-centered Psalm further in the language of the New Testament. And now Andrew Peterson has beautifully set it all to music. Thank you, Andrew, for contributing your talents to this rich chain of faith. Thank You, God, for using these men in this way to bring glory to Your name and to strengthen us.

What a rich and deep poetry , inspired by the most tragic but yet hopeful event in man's history.. For a moment God Almighty was hiding His face from the sight of His beloved Son.. and the recall to David's psalm is very appropriate.. Great job Mr Peterson.

Beautiful. This song is really informing my meditation on this Holy Saturday. The 22nd Psalm has long been one of my go-to scriptures in times of struggle and the mournful tone drives a sense of the extreme loss with which the Apostles and Our Lady, even in their faith, must have dealt.

Do you understand the Hell I am going through as I am still being neglected every goddamn day. Having to eat from the trash cans. No real support. Disowned by most of my family. Well, at least alienated. Homeless. No love. Or very little anyway. But the ones who do are the ones going through it with me. Is this how you keep the sabbath day holy?

Bien hecho, bien y fiel, bien hecho. Bien hecho, bien y fiel, bien hecho. Bien hecho buen y fiel.
