When I make small items like these, I submerge a batch in a big jug of food safe oil, then tip the whole lot into a big funnel & it drains back into the oil bottle overnight. The funnel has a filter to catch any stray shavings ( a paper coffee filter makes a good filter). Nice job, thanks for posting.

Cool, I just finished a order for a couple of whiskey cups or mugs. I made them from a slab of white oak that I cut the pith out of, so I was able to make them without turning ingrain, I burned the inside of them and used a lacquer finish on the outside, I think they really came out good, especially for the first time making them. I took my time but there's no way I could come close to your speed. I enjoy turning, and just take my time, I make less mistakes that way. I wish there was some way I could send you some pictures of the cedar, and spalted wood bowls, and these mugs I made just to get your opinion on them. I like watching your work, of all the KZbin turners I've watched you are by far one of the best, and fastest. You make it look so easy.

To make the sanding faster, you could sand from the inside and outside at the same time, balancing the force you apply so that you don’t need a supporting hand but rather have two sanding hands equalling out so that you don’t break the piece off.

@enchantedwooddesigns3462
@enchantedwooddesigns3462 8 ай бұрын
I believe those area European brand maybe Axminister jaws. They look to be straight jaws with a grip inside. Jaws are usually two types straight or dovetailed. Myself I prefer dovetailed to grip a tennon or a recess. They come in so many shapes and sizes so there are a lot of options. You want ones that grip the way you prefer and trust. I hope you are finding turning fun. A piece of wood starts as a blank or odd shape and what it finishes as is always fun to discover )

Great work, My family came to USA from Slovenia. My father spoke of making Slivovitz from plums and sometimes the first run was pure alcohol. How does the oil finish hold up to the alcohol. Dos the first drink carry a taste of the linseed and wax?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning 7 ай бұрын
Awsome, so we are next door☺️ after its completely dry you don't task linseed and wax and most people wash it before use and that washes any remains of wax...its simple finish,after washing theres not much left on the wood so you basicsly drink from wood direct.... Šljivovica is the sort of moonshine , have you ever try it?
@GoneBattyBats

@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Yes, when I can afford to buy the best Šljivovica here in USA I buy some. It has been many years. My Father said that some of the first run Šljivovica they could use to run motorcycles with. Powerful stuff at 100%.
