I’ve seen a lot of people saying this ruins the original, but the whole point of a remix is to reinvent the music in a completely new way which this succeeded in doing. It’s possible to separate this from the original version and just think “this is a fun, casual project not meant to be take overly seriously... it’s just a bop to jump around and dance to”. It took me a bit to warm up to the music video itself, but then I just realised it’s all just a bit of fun emulating the chaotic energy of the 90’s. I prefer the original since you can hear the nuances in his voice and harmonies much better and the single beat gives it such a raw, visceral vibe... but I also appreciate this for showing that sea shanties and marine-related themes don’t have to be restricted to niche communities or kids’ shows, they have a place in mainstream pop culture just as they did centuries ago 💙
