Its not a new uniform, the Guards where greatcoats in the winter and red tunics in the summer, and the greatcoats are grey not purple.

Had an opportunity to enter Wellington Barracks when my Scottish friend a former Scots Guardsman(a retired Major General) his eldest son a Scots Guards Officer invited us for dinner at their Officers Mess preceded by the guided tour.

Sgt major needs to get greatcoat tailored at the back. Bulging material needs removal 😅😅

This happens and can easily be rectified by holding the belt at the back and tugging at the lower part to rectify it

It’s greatcoats not long grey coats.

The red tunics are called 'Home Service dress tunics'. These are worn in the summer months - April until October. During autumn and winter they change into great coats - long grey coats - much more practical for the weather they have to endure while standing guard outside Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.

Omar again the armchair critics come out. The greatcoat is for winter, not a designer style item. The red tunic is made to measure as it’s worn only on ceremonial occasions only

My only criticism of this uniform is the greatcoats always look creased when the guardsmen are marching .. we all know this isn’t the case I have no doubt whatsoever they have been pressed to the highest standards beforehand ….I do wish the M.O.D would change the material type that not only hang nice but doesn’t look like it’s been dragged through a bush during drill and marching duties …

@Chris17198, I don’t understand the puckered hems that I’m seeing more of. Some of the duty and/or warrant officers don’t seem to have that problem 🤔

@@charlottecunningham2141 I don’t understand also … your correct the officers don’t have the same problem … someone write to the M.O.D and ask them to drop the puckered hem on the guards greatcoat …
