Biggest issue for all ratepayers is that we have no choice in the matter of rate increases. Our rates go up and service either reduces or doesn't improve, so its not like we are even getting anything positive from it. Point two, if we are disastisfied with our service for our money we can shop somewhere else, but not when it comes to rates. AND we have no choice in the matter we can't refuse to pay for it otherwise we get taken to court. Third point. We are all having to tighten our belts and watch our spending yet this council and many others I dare say are not even considering the must haves and nice to haves. As far as they are concerned we are an open cheque nook. THAT needs to stop. The mayor and the councillors have to rain in the discretionary spending. Case in point bike lanes, speed bumps and overpriced bike racks. It only needs an edict from the mayor and councillors to the over zealous greenie urban planners to say we are not doing those projects... We don't have the money....

Any person with half a brain would stop cycle lanes, the golden mile destruction, which is full of empty shops already and will be decimated if they ever start it, removal of parking, which the council finance clowns may not have realized actually brings in REVENUE, $550,000 bike rack on The Terrace, etc. etc. WCC is going to bankrupt the city and force thousands of ratepayers to leave. The mayor is experiencing the most difficult times economically Wellington and this country has experienced in the 60 years i have lived here. Local government is grossly over regulated and that is an additional burden. Mayors and senior staff in the greater Wellington area need to work collectively to resolve the problem of rates.
