Wellington West Coast Shore Dive / Spearfish - Catch & Cook

Romana, Maddy and the bro Luke head to Wellington's West Coast for a quick Shore Dive/ Spearfishing session. A good mixed bag: John Dory, Butterfish, Kahawai, Blue Moki, and found some Kutais also which is nice. Saw a few crayfish too but were in berry. To finish off filmed a quick Catch & Cook: Panko crumbed Johnny and homemade chips and Kutais.

Looks like a mean dive out there. I love that spot for fishing very active, will have to have another dive out there am yet to see my first eating fish, my first dive was there got a bit spooked by a big eagle ray.

I adore the content you share on your channel bro, diving locations are serene and sets such a calm mood and brings on the craving for kai moana lols 😀 I know wellington water is really cold , do you have to worry with white pointers? Do you have to be certified to free dive and are there any regulations while diving besides quota and size? In my teens we use to dive up north, if you have the opportunity, I highly recommend you try diving in Te hapua, the abundant sea life is wonderful and everything is humongous, we where opening kina with butcher knives and eating the row with tablespoons. Nice to watch your partner and yourself dive and gather together, lovely couple and I admire how you both love the moana. Kia Ora bro, thanks for your comment, really appreciate it. Yes, I know the cravings when you're watching videos online, just makes you want to get out there. As far as I'm away there are no resident white pointers in the Wellington region, well I'm yet to encounter any. But it's the risk we take for doing the things we love doing. No, there aren't any certifications for free diving. Yet it is best to get advice from experienced divers who know the area and also always dive with a buddy. Depending on the area there can be rahuis, and local iwi bylaws. Also, the sizes for shellfish and fish species for different areas within NZ. It's all on the "NZ fishing" App. Yes, both me and my partner were brought up in the Far North of NZ around the Doubtless Bay area and have dived around the Far North.. beautiful up there when we go back home. Normally love your guys dives but this one. I know use are better than this. 1, showing where use are are dam now that spots gonna get plundered. 2, diving in the beginners area. Guys the close areas are for people that cant dive deep are in a hurry or waters dirty. Thats it sorry but im sure u guys know this kaitiakitanga. But straight mean dive

Kia Ora Bro, thank you for your comment. Yes, I agree with what you're saying and understand where you are coming from. Makara in my eyes is one of the most well-known spots down these ways so didn't think it was too much of a big deal. Appreciate your honesty and will be more respectful of the Tikanga.
