Fished Wells Dam with guide Shane Magnuson of Upper Columbia Guide Services in early July 2021. Shane is our favorite guide to go fishing with on the Columbia River. Very knowledgeable, hard working and highly ethical! We had a blast fishing with him again and look forward to another trip in October for coho.

These summer run fish are great table fare. The sockeyes are the best eating salmon and the chinook are very good as well. The flesh isn’t as firm due to some fat loss due to the long travel but they are still great to eat fresh. We try not to freeze the chinook. Sockeyes hold up well when frozen.

Yeah we heard, and saw the pic, of a 30lb chinook the day before we went. It was a hatchery fish too. That’s a beauty!
