So I'm starting to pick up that you all associate R&B with a "manufactured" sound. Interesting. Because Alicia Keys, especially in the earlier 2000s, is HEAVILY R&B.

I think it’s the style in which the music is produced. Most of her production especially her first few albums are really just Piano, percussion and maybe strings. Songs like Fallin, If I Aint Got You and No One(which is borderline folk/Reggae ballad) are all songs that have minimal production. To a certain degree her music is like a more R&B/Soul version of Adele of its time.

@@Entertain101 I have always said Alicia Keys was the Adele of the 2000s or vice versa for 2010s. As in the female balladeer of the decade. Fallin' and If I Ain't Got You are R&B evergreens that have been covered by damn near everybody, including fellow artists.

Alicia is a classically trained pianist, this is her first big hit. She's married to a producer Swiss Beats with 2 sons. Her voice is amazing

"If I Aint Got You" is one of her most popular songs. "Diary" is my personal favorite.

This song won - Grammy song of the year in 2002, best R&B song, and best R&B female vocal performance. She is classically trained pianist with an amazing voice. Her version of a New York song "Empire State of mind" - is my favorite - her version only. You should review that as well. Thank you.....

Alicia Keys hit the scene as a Neo Soul artists (which is different from soul music). It just simply means new soul. But her later albums became more r&b music. You wouldn't but her in the same category as like an Aretha Franklin who is Soul, you wouldn't put her in the same category as Mary J Blige who is Hip Hop Soul. You'd put her in the category with people like Angie Stone, Maxwell, Music Soulchild, etc ...

Her singing on this is gorgeous and it’s a very unique song. Lyrically, it’s true of many of us that struggle with those we love but find ourselves incapable with.

When she started critics sort of dubbed her a female version of Stevie Wonder. Which is a compliment to her.....

On the same Alicia Keys album as Superwoman (album that dropped in 2007 called "As I Am) there is a song called "I Need You" that started out with drums only. "No One" was the biggest hit from that same album
