I remember the 1st enduro I was taken to I think it was 85/86 2 day Welsh I was in heaven...I'm stood at a clearing in the forest at the top of the hill everyone struggling until I see a white husky flying up the hill flashes past me after lifting my jaw off the floor I say who was that!!! In unison the 3 blokes go Geraint Jones just amazing rider real class...back then enduro was lucky if it got part of a page in Motorcross, trials news, remember that paper...I also remember Geraint or someone to do with him had a massive rottweiler...there was also a couple of women doing it one had a big wheeled CR80 skilled rider and good looking me being a hormonal teen it was a GRT weekend...

Da Iawn- i remember Doing a 3 hour Hare and Hounds in '90 and 91' at the Redwither Industrial estate nr Wrexham,North Wales- and had Geriant and Alan bates on my arse for almost two laps, it was one of the tightest, narrow and muddy Enduro's i tried to win For over four years- They just sat and waited for me to tire- sure enough- i knew it was them, they just went by smooth as can be and steadily disappeared as i was lock to lock flat out for another hour or so. Incredible Fellas -Much respect.

Volksquadman used to be taken to enduro back in the 80s the bloke had a xr600 big Russel..but sometimes we'd go to a hare and hounds near Wrexham I think it was a old brick factory and that course was bloody difficult the bomb crater, just wandering if it was the same course ..

@@briandoyle6188 it sounds like it, there was abandoned buildings kind of sunk in the ground, it was an old ordanance factory in ww2, my Nain used to work there as a young woman. It was a large area with lots of hidden concrete edges grown over. The club i think abandoned it after PCBs were discovered in that little river we all had to cross a few times, part stagnant. The whole area was swampy- always a hard event. Great memories, tiny plastic trophy after 3&1/2 hrs of murder n mud. Bike & rider battered.

@@volksquadman thanks for responding to your comment from 7 years back internet time..a couple of times I was allowed to Marshall I was 15 about 7 stone wet through and did it on a xr 250 so yes terrified I think I had a red and yellow flags not quite sure... Geraint Jones was such a GRT rider so to race against him pretty special GRT times...that's right I remember concrete foundations of buildings that had been there all over the place it was a course if you didn't walk it first you'd be in trouble it was really good for a hare and hounds and always loads of people there.. GRT bikes then maico, husky and the Japanese bikes..

This was 1982. Modern bikes don't smoke like that unless there's something broken. Also, 4-strokes are more popular now and cleaner since they don't mix oil in the fuel.

It hardly pollutes at all actually. Enduro bikes in this event, running for roughly 8hrs each day and doing two days, so say about 16hrs, would be less pollutant than a 4hr car drive so it really is not as bad as you may think. This is mainly due to the weight of the bikes compared to cars, they use nowhere near as much fuel.

Guess you are right there pal- i rode KTMs in Welsh mud for years- i bust one in an event one day and a pal loaned me a 490 alpha- it seemed much smoother than the KTM but didnt have the hard hit or top end of the '85 500 KTM- but the power was so smooth and controllable- i won too- but got disqualified-its in one of my vids. But the Welsh lads i raced with wouldn't part with their Maico's- esp the Enduro lads. The Blue Maico's didnt feel as good.

@TIMOTHYSAARINEN Almost right :-) The 1981 KTM 495 is the most beautiful and exotic mx bike ever. Not to mention the fastest ever doing 123,75 MPH (200 Km/h)

in REAL life a 490 Maico would eat a 495 KTM because the Maico would put its power to the ground and not just spin the wheel. I have proved this to more than a few KTM guys in the day.....
