CDU politician and President of the German Association of Counties, Achim Brötel, has sharply criticized the reform of naturalization law. In an interview, he emphasized that the shortened waiting times would lead to an increase in the number of applications and place a heavy burden on the immigration authorities. Without additional staff and financial support, the districts would have to bear the costs themselves. Brötel pleaded for naturalization as the “culmination of a successful integration process”, which requires time and thorough examinations.
