Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser has banned the right-wing extremist magazine Compact and its online and video offshoots. Business premises and homes of leading employees have been searched since the early hours of the morning. The magazine has repeatedly attracted attention for spreading conspiracy myths and anti-Semitic narratives. The measure is controversial and could lead to mobilizations against the Interior Ministry in the right-wing extremist scene. Jürgen Elsässer, editor-in-chief of the magazine, has built up a wide reach and maintains connections to the AfD and other right-wing radical groups.
