The censors didn't expect it to be as popular as it became and so didn't pay as much attention as they otherwise would have towards scrutinizing the content. Post WoH, Chinese media reviews were much stricter with things -- and now? Well, we have the anti-'pretty' boy/man mandate and the internal reshaping of the Chinese media image so I can't imagine anything like this will happen again for quite some time.
