What a champ!. I knew she was good, but this is outrageous. She indeed switches multiple times from French to Dutch and back. Here in Europe it is not that extraordinary to speak 2 or more languages, certainly not in Belgium. Back here in the Netherlands we all learn Dutch, English, French, German and nowadays you can choose Spanish and Chinese and even Russian like my kids do.

Bij ons werd geen Spaans of Russisch en zeker geen Chinees gegeven. Bij ons was het gewoon de standaard Engels, Frans en Duits met nog Latijn en Grieks vanwege het gymnasium. Ik heb het zelf maar bij Latijn gehouden. Dat hoeft maar een kant op en niet beide kanten zoals bij moderne talen en mijn Grieks is beroerd.😂 De Mythen en geschiedenis hebben me altijd erg aangesproken.😊

A great song which most Dutch people know since the mid 70's by Dutch singer Ramses Shaffy . "Laat Me" is a cover of the French song Ma dernière volonté (Vivre) (1977) by Serge Reggiani (French lyrics by Sylvain Lebel and music by Alice Dona) with Dutch lyrics by Herman Pieter de Boer. Wow!!! Seen many covers. The original with Ramses Shaffy is awesome. The one with Ramses and De Alderliefste is awesome and pretty emotional, but even I never heard Wende. And it made me choke. Felt the meaning behind this song since it's pretty familiar for me. But her voice! It brought the story to another level. Wow 😳 And thanks again. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been waiting for this one. She is really something else and I love her for it. Some artists have the guts to steer away from the popular and commercial stuff and just follow their creative hearts. She is definitely one of them. Others mentioned Ramses Shaffy. He is one of them. In fact he challenged every social norm out there. Although Wendy was never as extreme, she does question and challenge what is generally accepted. And she does so with a lot of power. She doesn't shy away from those little vulnerable sweet songs if she recognizes the art in them. An example is a song by a very famous entertainer in the Netherlands Toon Hermans: "Als de liefde niet bestond" ('If love didn't exist'). She really honored him with her rendition of this song. ok so ... this was a good cover ... but a cover none the less ... little backstory about this version. the French version was the original ... a Dutch singer launched a Dutch rendition of the song and scored a hit with it ... after a long and succesfull career he landed his ass in an old folks home, and stopped preforming. When the Dutch preforming community heard they were like ... no you don't ... which lead to this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5mYmmuietWUfpI you see the band that set this up together with his life long friend and him. safe to say it exploded.

The original of this song is "Ma Dernière Volonté" by Sergio Reggiani. In the late seventies it was translated into Dutch as "Laat me" and became the signature song of the Late, great Ramses Shaffy, a performer who you would call a stand-up comedian. A cabaret performer may be a better description; telling happy or sad stories on stage, telling jokes, singing songs. In any case, in the late nineties he did a new version of this song with the band "Alderliefste" and his muse Liesbeth List, combining both the Dutch as well as the French lyrics. This is the version Wende performed here.

Wende covers Anouk's song Lost. Wende covers A song by the late Toon Hermans: Als de liefde niet bestond. She has a lot of own songs. She can sing everything with full passion. I saw her recently twice in one week with the same show. Once in theater and once in a pop temple. Incredible.

Hopefully I will soon have the pleasure of going to one of her theatershows, I was unable to go to her last one a few weeks ago. If you like Wende, perhaps you will like Ellen ten Damme as wel.
