To me The Sopranos and The Wire represent American film and television at its absolute pinnacle. They provided the greatest stories, characters, entertainment, meaning, symbolism, development, and influence in the culture. They were pioneering shows well ahead of their time and made it possible for everything that came after. Without these two shows there is no BB, no GoT, True Detective, House of Cards, Better Call Saul, and countless others that were spawned by the trailblazing visions of David Simon and David Chase. What brilliance these two men brought to the screen. What amazing writers and actors that will live on and forever be the true gold standard in classic Americana television. As for which is the better show The Sopranos or The Wire that is another discussion, but here and now they stand uncontested among all.

Funny it took so long to become a hit. For years, I've heard people say how great of a show it was but never watched it. Then a couple of months ago, Bosch ended the season and I saw that Jamie Hector and Lance Reddick were in The Wire so I figured I'd check out their roles from a decade earlier and within the first 10 minutes, I was hooked.

The reason I think it's the best show ever is the incredible amount of excellent writing for so many characters. They really wrote the story of a whole city, and every season added to the grand picture. First Inner City, second the docks, third the mayor's office and city council, fourth the school system, and fifth the media and newspapers. All of it felt not out of place. Many other shows just add new characters and it ends up feeling weird.
