The single radio doesn’t come with any batteries. You have to buy the one pictured with a battery. Or I think the two radio bundle includes the batteries. It can be powered by the included USB cable. I connected it to a power bank and it worked fine. After about 5 minutes it shuts off but pressing the power bank button comes back to life and does the same a few minutes later. Connected to a wall plug it’ll probably stay on constant. The speaker is comparable to the Panasonic RF-150D which is $15 currently. Same size speaker it looks like. I read all the negatives but wanted to try it for the extras. Bluetooth worked. Will use with a card or USB stick. Thanks for the video!

I have yet to purchase one of these, the SW band starting at 6MHz is not ideal, and I wasn't sure if the MW band was 9kHz stepped from the factory. I love my cheap $10 radios that have extras, like the Red Sonnra Shortwave I use on a daily basis. It is compact, takes a BL-5C, or Two D Cell batteries. It also has a MP3 player, but no BT. Alas I can't find more of them, because the MW is so good, I wanted a few spares like yourself and the Y-706. I may pick one up for kicks, thanks for the video, watched it all the way through.

I'll have to start watching your reviews! YES - any excuse to buy an additional radio! I've seen this model over the months, will now see if it's still available. The use of AAAs is fine, I try to keep some on hand. I especially like the prominent volume knob - I like to constantly fiddle with the volume knob on a radio. I also like when a company thinks enough of us to include a tuning LED - too bad this one doesn't have that. Thanks for letting us know.

An inexpensive, but high quality AM FM Swb with weather bands is an important device for every home or rv/camping/car emergency kit. Everyone thinks of the band aids and the beef jerky but how many think of being able to keep up with information that could save your life. Nobody wants to worry about being isolated during or after the storm/earthquake/wild fire/other major disaster.

I would probably recommend the XHData D219 over the Wenpzeray for an emergency kit radio. I really wish XHData would release a version of D219 without the FM2 band but with Weatherband.

Why isn't this radio getting more attention? At least for two reasons. 1. Most of the time posting to Europe is unavailable. 2. The only place I found posting available for Europe was at Amazon. The problem is: while the receiver is only 9 dollars, the postage costs 15 dollars, so the double the price. For 24$ there are good alternatives however.

I have the Y-706 in red and the XHDATA D220 in orange. The D220 has the edge on sensitivity but the Wenpzeray has a slight better speaker sound. Hands down the D220 has better battery life. The Wenpzeray burns through both a BL5C or 3 AAA in a day. They both suck on SW. The Wenpzeray does have bluetooth which works well. I have not tried the card reader.
@RonsRadioCorner-xg2fb
@RonsRadioCorner-xg2fb 2 ай бұрын
I haven't killed the battery in the Y-706 yet but only listen to it for a few minutes at a time. the XHDATA D-219 (I don't have the D-220) is clearly the better radio.. but when you factor in bluetooth, usb, etc. the Y-706 makes a good case for a cheap knock around radio.
@radellaf
@radellaf 2 ай бұрын
Because the SW tuning is the level of the thrown in because the chip does it, where the xhdata has enough bands and dial to make it pleasant. AA is nice, too (the 5C isn’t widely liked). And the vol knob doesn’t wiggle. Not that this doesn’t have a place, but not amongst SW listeners.

I agree. I like the Wenpzeray and have made it a point to use it over the last several days. But, it is a radio that is best for someone who just wants a radio they can knock around, play the local stations, and have the flexibility to connect via Bluetooth or play MP3s, and for $10 it does all that decently well.

@@RonsRadioCorner-xg2fb I do thank you for the video. I've certainly had fun playing with the thing. Wouldn't be the first radio I bought mostly for how it looks - is the cheapest one, though (RF320 was the most $$). BT is a big plus. I hear the feature is valued, especially, by retirees in China who like to play loud music in public areas.

The problem is putting shortwave bands on only 1 dial which makes it a bear to tune into a specific station because of the DSP chip and muting. Dividing it into 6 or more bands makes it much easier to tune.

@RonsRadioCorner-xg2fb Yeah, the Internet has messed up everything. Why can't we look-up something we're interested in, then go to a store in town and check it out. I'm a Ham Radio oporater (Amateur radio we call it here in small town rural Australia). The BL5c battery should give you at least 48hrs. They come in 500 mah up to 1100mah, and should be a NiMh battery. NiMh batterys have a secret, they can be "trickle charged" 24/7 til the end of time. One of those mini solar panels, 2 inch by 2 inch kinda roughly, should get you in the ballpark. 5.5volt, 100 to 200 mah's The best SW radio is the iCom One. Its got age to it now, has a couple of tubes in it, but weighs 12 lbs. The best deal these days, word of mouth. Get a CB radio, listen around, friendly chat here and there, something will pop up. More info, let me know.

LOL DAB xD yeah no thanks. This tech is outdated and BAD. And it was already outdated and bad when it was released. Plus DAB doesn't even work properly in your car when you are driving and also don't have clear line of sight to the transmitter. Plus the power consumption for DAB (because of the decoding) is insane, compared to the passive reception and playback of analog radio signals. The only ones still constantly pushing this DAB crap are the paid lobbyists of DAB because it can't be the ones who actually heard it in action. The sound is worse than web radio streams because they cram too many stations at too low bitrates with an outdated codec into the their transponders.
