Wensleydale Railway • Bedale Station • Pacer 142 Services • Heritage Railway

The Wensleydale Railway is part of the old line through the Yorkshire Dales and once formed a primary link between the Great Northern line through Northallerton and the Midland Railway’s Settle to Carlisle route. Today the service is operated by a Pacer DMU pair and I had the chance to explore the various stations along the line.

The railway ride and visit was most enjoyable. The Pacer DMU set made a nice change to the regular carriages on heritage lines. Yeah, always include some nostalgia 🤠

They are a bit noisy on the older rails and tighter curves but the units did well for several decades of good service. Thanks for your comment and support there Ron, Cheers, Warren :)

The passengers may have hated them. The wheelchair users may have hated them but you cannot deny that the pacer units were one of Britains most durable and cost effective workhorses in railway history.

Now that's so true. They never ran near me but I have used them in the past for local services elsewhere when visiting. Noisy though, so noisy, on some sections of line. Thanks for your comment here, much appreciated. Cheers, Warren :)

The Great Northern Railway went to Shaftholme Junction. Northallerton was in the [widespread] territory of the North Eastern Railway.
