Very well explained Luzi! It was also a confusing topic for me (especially between wer and wen) but you explained it so well. 👏 Also, who did Max call yesterday? Wen hat Max gestern angerufen? Because we are looking for the direct object = the person that Max called. If we are looking for the subject, who called Max yesterday? Then it would be “Wer hat Max gestern angerufen?”

In English, "who" versus "whom" When you can substitute the subject prounouns "He" or "She" you use "Who". When you can correctly substitute the object pronouns "Him" or "Her" you use "Whom".

English WHOM is both direct and indirect objects: I gave the book to Johann, whom is my friend. Whom were you talking to? I bumped into Mary, whom is my coworker. But it's interesting that FÜR WEN kaufst du.... is direct object in German but FOR WHOM do you buy....is indirect object in English

Of course, English grammar-nerds might still insist on 'wen' and 'wem' being translated as 'whom/to whom' in English, despite the fact that 'whom' has pretty well disappeared from colloquial spoken English for quite a long time now.

There is no difference, the same goes for "Weswegen?". All these words are "Why?" in Englisch. "Warum?" is the most common of them.

I believe it still it’s a question here. Question does not show plural or singular. Since your answer is plural the question can’t be made in plural may be. So wer hat die Hunde rausgelassen( who let the dogs out)¿ .Sie haben die Hunde rausgelassen. This is just my guess.
