It's not anything revolutionary that I came up with on my own, it's been something long discussed in fashion. I just don't think we've ever really taken it into account for sneakers.

A lot of sneaker youtubers are literally banking on promoting FOMO to boost their views. Even then, they're still in the red. I never mind the early reviews, but I cant stand the ones that push consumerism heavy and ignore the fact that their viewers dont need to buy every shoe they make a video on

Not only do we NOT need to buy every shoe, there comes a point where because you can do something means you're not even as pressed to do it. Just the freedom of knowing you can spend your money on tons of pairs is enough for some and you choose to spend it on other things once you have so many pairs. Whether we like it or not (because I don't for the most part), we have influence on people's behaviors and we should treat that responsibly.

Early sneaker reviews for performance shoes, whether that's basketball or skateboarding can be great! Especially with sport-specific shoes being tailored for certain activities, it helps to know what features aren't being covered in the product descriptions. Think of the Nike SB Vertebrae, that shoe is surprisingly nice for wide feet compared to the SB Nyjah or SB Shane O'Neil. But for new colourways with activity dying down for sneakers, those early preview videos are best left for retailers like skate shops who can give a detailed overview as they're already in the position. It helps the business out as well. As a normal consumer, more of a gamble. There was a time my friend hit the raffle on the SB Dunk Jarritos and we filmed the unboxing for fun. I saw a noticeable fast climb to 600 views better than any other video I've made, but it stopped after 2 or so weeks.

Performance reviews are a great exception, I would throw running in there as well. Skate shops seem like the perfect source for those early reviews, especially because they are likely tapped into the nuanced stories behind shops' collabs and stories. And I imagine that view took off really fast, many SBs do just because people are interested in those drops and I don't blame them. The SB Dunk Low models are just great pairs, especially for collabs.

I think the only factor that gets left out here is that, if they're smart, these sneaker KZbinrs are selling the sneakers before the release too. They'll still take a hit, but soften the blow at least. Bonus points if they just borrow the show just for the review. But it goes to show how much free advertising Nike, Jordan Brand, and other companies get without even trying. Pretty sure that's why they don't mind sneakers getting leaked so early on.

Many creators do pass shoes around if they have relationships, for an early review, which is smart. Some do sell beforehand but that will also rub some viewers wrong as it was never about the shoe or wanting it as someone to wear it, only to gain the traction. I call it Catch and Release Reviews. But yes, they get plenty of free advertising.

I’ve always thought that it just didn’t make sense for people making so many videos especially for shoes that they say at the end of the day they don’t like and getting them early for that extra money just makes no sense to me. As Jordans start to sit and people lose interest I think this will all slow down and folks will have to have substance instead of just being first.

I think you're right, when the demand isn't there it means the views might not be to generate revenue off the shoe review. So then what value in discussions around sneakers can you bring to your channel? And that is NOT as easy as people may think. It takes WAY more intention when the shoe is not the star of the video and the substance of the video needs to stand out.

Today I wanted to buy the chlorophyll AM1 for around 400 I most likely wouldn't wear it more then 4 times before the end of 2025 that 100 per wear. Worth it? You'll have to take in consideration if you can get them for retail I mean I 'need' them double up worthy. Still gotta buy my grails for a second time. But that's the union 1 Black toe cost per wear is different no air people and is a lot more durable shoe you could wear for at least 10 years. It all depends what the materials are made of and what model it is if it's worth buying. ❤
