I digress a lot in the video im sorry! But basically I'm trying to show that the older Bethesda games were kinda just as bad as current games, but they just had little to no competition for what they offered.

I couldn't get into Fallout 4, but have been excited for a new Elder Scrolls title for over 10 years. Can't believe it's been as long as it has been.... Now I'm not sure if I want it or not

@@ProxyGateTactician I definitely am still going to play Elder scrolls 6. But also not hype either.

Mmmm I agree with the competition factor. What made Bethesda RPGs amazing was that they were the only ones doing it at the time. Now the gloss is gone since every other company went to great lengths to not only emulate but smash it with their own versions of open worlds and RPGs. The other issue that I have noticed however is that the writing and narrative has always been lacking and was held up by incredible LORE. Starfield came out and really exposed the poor writing and creativity in narratives because there was no lore for the game to stand on top of and now the writing takes front seat which is already not up to standard. Couple that with the outdated mechanics and the competition and now you have a game thats perception is just perceivably piss poor in comparison despite it being similar to their past games

Daggerfall, to me, is still the best high fantasy from them. The visuals still amaze me, as does the map size, and the way NPCs feel so real. Great atmosphere too. Morrowind, while I do love it, felt painfully barren and ugly in comparison, and they never fixed the fogging issue that makes navigation impossible. It is a real gem to those who persevere with it, but the awkwardness of the gameplay makes it so often anti-fun to play. The game is more funny than fun, in it that we fans like to make silly memes out of the silliness of it. Oblivion feels empty, felt so even when it launched. Sure, there are lot of trees and beasts, but for some reason, the world outside the towns feels empty and sort of sterile. Game world is pretty, but it is also generic fantasy and lacks uniqueness. Dungeons are poorly designed, samey, and rather dull imo, when compared to dungeons in all other their games. Good main story tho with the Oblivion gates and all. Guild storylines are bit meh tho. Skyrim is brilliant and filled with life and side missions. But the issue there is that it feels more action adventure than real roleplaying game. Because your hero can become good at everything simultaneously, you do not have to focus on any role. You can be master thief, mage and great warrior at the same time. Feels like RPG for kids really. Fallout 3 is a masterpiece. Now it might feel bit old, and look bit old, but I still love it to bits and would not change anything. It still got the magic. F4 was, again, more like RPG for kids and sunday gamers. Great game, but just too easy and simple. Overall their games are solid entertainment but when it comes to masterpieces, Daggerfall and F3 are the only ones deserving that moniker.

@@kimmoruohoniemi7158 I can’t comment on daggerfall but I agree on your sentiment about the other games. I do truly feel people enjoy the older games a lot because there was nothing else like them when they came out. Fallout 3 has the best story and “vibe” fallout 4 was “close” but missed the mark barely on quite a few things, and the loot style definitely didn’t help (at least for me)

aight I played most of those old games on release. Daggerfall - barely functional piece of shit. It was nicknamed Buggerfall. Windows 95 wasn't exactly a joyous OS to work with, but this game under that OS? What the fuck dude. Morrowind - great game with high system requirements to run on max. You needed that GeForce 3 pixel shaders for it to show its best looks. Actually decent on the technical side, gameplay was janky. But mostly relied on mindset change where combat isn't really skill issue but stats issue. Oblivion - this one rickrolled you bad. First 30 minutes in tight caves and dungeons, the game runs relatively well, you're happy. You exit the sewer and game runs at 5 FPS, you can forget about playing this without upgrading your hardware. Terrible technical side, crashes a lot. Also fucking DLC. Never mind that stupid horse armor. Frostcrag Spire fucking lit me up on fire. Spellmaking and enchanting altars were a reward for a pretty hefty effort (recommendations from mages guild in every city!!!) and this fucking $5 DLC just gives you that... for like 2k gold...at level 1... Fallout 3 - basically Oblivion with firearms. I mean, it brought Fallout into the masses, the classic 1990's games were good but somewhat fringe? Always wanted a Fallout game in FPP, fully 3D setting. This was one. So it's alright i guess? Skyrim - this is where I quit. Too simplified, too "mainstream". Game became Taylor Swift basically. For everyone, but is it really? And how many times they re released this? This came out on 11/11/11. We are 13 years ahead of that and TES 6 is nowhere to be seen.

i think people look at bethesda games in a weird way. but the fact of the matter is, they have always been extremely mid games. daggerfall to morrowind was a downgrade in more than a dozen ways. every game since then, is a morowind clone, with less features and a fresh skin of paint. bethesda has not shown any real improvement's in game design philosophy in 20+ years. they made morrowind, stagnated, and fosterd a fan base of very casual "RPG" players.

@@ickasaurus1195 yup. I agree. I’ve accepted my love for Morrowind really is because I was like 15 and it was my first game from them. But really they are mid/no other games did what they did at that time.
