@ThorGodofThunder420

As a Bills fan, I can see how it's called. By the letter of the rule it's about coming down with body weight. But imo those penalties are made for 300+ lb DTs. You're supposed to let off before he hits the ground. But at the same time, since he was going for a strip there was really no other way he could land. He didn't drive him into the ground, he landed on him. I'll wager he and Rodgers weigh in the 230-250lb area. Unfortunately, it's human eyes making the call and maybe they don't have all the angles. The biggest problem with most sports is every penalty is discretionary. There's always grey area. If a ref wanted to call a penalty and it looks like a penalty, they could call it. Take the Rodgers "forward pass" for example. He didn't throw the ball. His arm was moving forward and he never let go until it was basically knocked loose from impact. That's a nonsense rule, but at the same time, hand went forward, ball was "released." It comes down to how the refs feel. And in that scenario unless they had a RB or TE pass blocking, it definitely could have been grounding. The ball went straight down. Whose to say it was a "forward pass?" Something like that shouldn't have a quick booth review. It should have a full review where they look at every possibility with outcome. Bills definitely got the shaft in this game imo where the bad calls or missed calls favored the jets more. I'd say just about every penalty called on the Jets was an actual penalty. They missed some as well. The roughing call on Kinlaw was the closest thing to not a penalty, but from the angle shown in this video, it definitely could be. It could also be a flop. Idk what his left hand did.

the problem isn’t that penalties shouldn’t be called, but these judgment penalties are ruining the game. it’s about the refs and not the play. roughing calls are ludicrous, uncatchable balls don’t exist unless the ref views it that way. a holding penalty isn’t a holding penalty unless the ref calls it. the NFL is totally scripted and you can’t say it isn’t.

Great breakdown. Totally agree with everything in the video. The "fumble" was definitely the worst one for me because I just don't see how they could call what he did a throw. At the very least (and I don't recall any eligible receivers in the area) it could have been grounding.

The most puzzling to me is the Reed PI: ok he initially has no track of the ball, but as they are colliding he starts turning around to locate the ball and the WR runs into him; yes he impedes the WR, but only because he is in better position, standing between him and an underthrown ball; it's not like he must step aside to let the WR make a play on the ball...

It is easy to say in hindsight, but if there was an over/under on penalties. This game should have been an automatic overbet. It is a divisional game, for the top spot, with a team trying to set the tone for a new defensive minded head coach, with the loser of the game going from superbowl expectations to a near irrelevancy position where the rest of the season will be going through the motions whiling feeling you lost the 'must win game' Refs might have flag happy, and wishing they had the opportunity to call offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties but both teams were professional enough to keep the cheating between the whistles.
@tonyconiglio6941
@tonyconiglio6941 2 күн бұрын
The roughing the passer on Rodgers should not have been called. Just because it kinda fits the letter of the law doesn't mean it's the correct call, that's a legal philosophy called positivism which should not be used when calling penalties in a professional sport. Not every thing that technically breaks the rules is called, can be called, or should be called. Referees in every sport balance between over calling and interrupting the flow of the game and under calling and letting things get too rough. Discretion is inherently part of the job. Choosing to take a 4th & super long and turning it into a 1st and 10 because of a soft landing on a QB bc muh rules is not even remotely justifiable.

I don’t think Jackson says anything here that is too unreasonable. Colin Cowherd made a point that because it was a Monday night game the refs were trying to make a statement that they would be strictly enforcing rules and were a bit flag happy and were erring on the side of giving a penalty. The problem is that the NFL is trying to reduce injuries which requires reduced contact but the whole game is about contact. Also, enforcement is uneven so players tend to push limits and when the refs are flag happy, ugh, it is not fun to watch.

There was a lot of sloppy play which is why I do feel for the refs a tiny bit but also... you cannot be calling a penalty every play, like unless its an obvious one it just ruins the watching experience. They also need to look at the ineligible man downfield calls, I do get the advantage they may cause but as a viewer you do not even notice them AND the players dont either cause players will signal for ever penalty in the game but I havent once seen someone cry for that to be called. The pis and the roughing are so hard cause I get it but nobody likes them and they are just whatever the refs feel like on the day, uncatchable balls dont exist and depending on the official it is either just tight play or a spot foul.. It was a sloppy game and there was a lot of real penalties but surely part of being a ref is knowing when to let the boys play, like it goes too far in the other direction sometimes but playoff hockey when they refs might as well not even bring a whistle for the first round is some of the most fun sporting to watch and imo football refs need to start adjusting to the game, if they have been sloppy and holding for 3 quarters maybe we gotta swallow some of em in the 4th.
@tdtommy196
@tdtommy196 3 күн бұрын
Sorry, but you're wrong. Neither of those roughing the passer penalties should have been called. Did Epenesa land on top of Rogers? Yes. However, that is NOT the rule. The rule is that you cannot land on top of the QB with all your body weight, and that is absolutely NOT what he does there. Watch his legs, It's more like a wrestling take down. His left leg is forward knee bent, and his body weight is not fully channeled into the hit. On top of that, his right hand braces the fall even further taking body weight away from the hit. Sorry, but you are absolutely incorrect in your assessment. The call was a complete joke, and the officials in this game were absolute dog crap.
