Well, I love sharks and I think they are very misunderstood animals. The Rokea are, however, a little more aggressive, but at least the dislike of many of them towards people is quite understandable. I am looking forward to the next video on this breed, I find them very interesting. But for now, thanks for a great job!

I ran a short, 3-session run of all Rokea who ended up banding together to fight off a Pentex testing squad trying to combine banes and cephalopods. It was pretty straight forward but my group at the time wanted to get a feel for all the Changing Breeds and it's what felt like it could be a good "sampler." The group ended up "adopting" a man who sold ice cream by the beach because the frozen treat was their favorite part of Unsea. Even with the fun of the series it was decided Rokea were a bit too clunky for our group. Now I am excitedly eying the Wraith 20th book on your shelf.

That sounds like a great game but ends with how I feel the Rokea are like. If anything I would use them as a support character.

There are stories told from werewolf perspectives, they are based in the lore but seem to be one off stories. Some do include some important/reoccurring characters.

@@TheStatisfiedOne The changing breeds have always been different, as (at least one) of them predates humans. The Mokole can remember (through Mnesis) the time of the Lizard Kings, which was a race of dinosaur-people that predates the current era, and the Mokole were the were-dinosaurs that bred with them. Though no remaining Mokole can remember exactly what caused them to die out, it's assumed to be the extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs (IE: The previous apocalypse. There is an Apocalypse scenario where the asteroid belt decides to hurl a rock at Gaia and hit reset, this would make sense as being something that has happened before, and fit with all the lore as well as real world evidence such as the Chicxulub crater).

edit: I'm wrong, disregard. i did more reading and realized I misread what a rorqual was, sirenians aren't included DX. could probably still rule 0 them in but... original: True! but WTA redefines the "spiritual rorqual" as being any cetacean (whales, dolphins, porposes) and lists stats for a variety of npcs ranging from dolphins to orcas. honestly I didnt realize that rorqual was a real world term till you said it, so that's kinda cool and kinda wish they made a different one up for "spiritual rorqual" instead now lol

I run a Rokea game based on my interpretation of 30 years after the events of Mateo Joining Streams, an excuse to alter the lore some what and increase the number of betweeners to rival that of pelagics and force a full civil war over the ideology and interpretation of the "first" homid rokea (not canon by any means but works for the story we wanted to play). I placed the story as taking place in the gulf of farallones, with the 'grotto of farallon' growing sick and weakening. players goals are to heal the grotto and stop what ever is weakening it, and I have placed the sources of this corruption from human polutters (pentex), a qyrl aligned rokea slew who are actively corrupting the major local spirits of areas of the gulf, and also a bunch of various threats from the deep coming into the area as they are attracted by the growing qyrl taint. Add in personal plot lines, political hiccups (pelagic hinting parties, LA's beast court, a vampire war on land, hyper territorial garou on land) and side quests and we have an enjoyable (for us) sandbox monster of the week game with and over arching campaign story.

I have a Rokea character who had the merit that made him prehistoric. As part of that merit you had narrative reason to be highly revered and respected by other Rokea, however in order to explain why you were still a base character in points, it meant that you didnt really do much with your thousands of years of existence. I also had the anachronistic flaw, so he was very aloof and out of touch and just how advanced and populated the world really was. So for the character I made that he was just an easy going guy, with a love for cooking and discovering new recipes and ways to cook food, and he would swim and travel to various inhabited islands and coasts, learning different means of food preparation. I sadly never got more than one session with the character, but I would have loved to continue. He basically was a living megalodon, and was one of the last of his prehistoric size of Rokea.

the long distance impregnation thing was in fact in an older Changing breeds book by white wolf. you are not mistaken, though it was mentioned in a lore section, and nowhere as an official ability or rite, if I remember correctly. It's been nearly 8 years since I read the section in question.

We ended the Betweener War because it just made the Rokea unplayable. Not only do you have to come up with a reason for a Rokea to be on land with the rest of the group, but now them doing so will attract groups of other weresharks coming to kill them. It was ridiculous imo. I played a higher rank Rokea/Same-bito (4), who was a Homid and was a green tech venture capitalist, helping fund and develop aquatic farming and oceanographic protections to help relieve overfishing pressures. They were also a Judo master and specialised in Grapple > Bite Off Head.

tbh the whole beef between Homid/Betweeners and every other Rokea feels totally unnecessary. I can see them being shunned (maybe), but hunted down? Add the whole thing with the Samebito and it's too much. I usually just ignore that whole thing.

Only once our Story Teller used a Rokea, the same game I was playing as a Kitsune. Our group was suppose to sabotage a rig at sea that was experimenting with new bombs. Me and a Shadow Lord in our group of five noticed a Shark swimming by and its patterns were odd for a shark and way too intelligent as it moved about in a patrolling manner and avoid the cameras like we were. After a very tense and near combat situation, we met our very first, and likely last, Rokea that led to us destroying the Wyrm tainted Rig that was making bombs to makes holes in the Umbra.

A fun fact about the rokea swim law is also tied to their biology. Normal sharks and rokea in shark/squamous form do not have the ability to pull in water over their gills like many fish do. They must keep moving otherwise no water moves through their gills, so they get no oxygen, and they effectively drown. Rokea in crinos form do have that ability so they can sit in one place for an ambush, provided they can fight the urge to move. Also, because it is so incorporated into their biology, if they are ever restrained or imprisoned in a small cage, they will frenzy. Though movement in a vehicle is fine because they are still moving. I played a rokea dimwater, who are like their theurges. The rokea book used to say they were extremely curious so that curiosity drove him in land. Being on land made him a target for rokea hunting parties since part of rokea initiation was to come on land and hunt rokea who chose to live or the rare human kin that were born since when a rokea is on land their libido go through the roof. It became a constant opportunity for enemies. Also because in one instance he was attacked and saved near a mokole wallow. He fell for a mokole kin woman. Since he had been on land so long he started to feel human emotions they normally don’t feel, like love. He then felt that duty to protect his mate and his human kin children.

I feel that the Rokea have great potential, but the Betweener war needs to be ended as it only limits them. I see the Rokea as being the least arrogant of the Changing Breeds, and that they should have the least issues working with others. They could easily be the "Will you all grow up" faction of the Fera, similar to the Corax. As long as they are serving Gaia, the Rokea should see others as allies.

You're not wrong. I mean I personally like the war and cranked it up to 11 for my game, but nothing wrong with removing it from yours. if you looking for a pseudo canon reason to do so, chapter 4 of the breed book covers a few 'after the events of the book' setting options. one of them, "Change," indicates a few ways that the first homid might change rokea culture, and ending the betweener wars is a listed option for storytellers to use.

I've always been a fan of the Rokea, never been able to play one. My home town only had 3 games. They were all ran by the same story teller. And he was vehemently pro garou anti anything that isn't a tzimisce or garou, and an elitist in the extreme, to the point where he describes everyone elses ideas as, "Oh you're still at that stage..." meanwhile he never gave any examples of his own creativity either in or out of game, and had a bad tendency to cheat.
