Base Attack Bonus (BAB) is basically at the start at Level 1 an added bonus +1 to your attack dice roll in order to beat/overcome the Armor Class (AC) of the enemy in order to actually hit the enemy. Some classes are increasing that Bonus every Level so they will end up at Level 20 with a BAB bonus of +20 to their attack dice roll. Other classes have a slower progression and will end at Level 20 with just 3/4 = ´+15 at level 20 and other classes with just the half = +10 at level 20. Which classes have which BAB progression is shown at the level progression sheet. At least that´s how I understand BAB. If I´m wrong everyone can feel free to correct me.

@@Werglia I forgot to mention that BAB plays also a role for the amount of extra attacks, but now I don´t know out of the top of my head the actual breaking points where those then increase...but obviously and self explaining the more BAB at the end the more extra attacks at the end

Yeah that pretty much sums up BaB. In Pen and paper it's referred to as Full BaB, 3/4 BaB and 1/2 BaB (which you nailed :D). Also something to note is BaB is usually tied to hit dice as well, so anyone with a D10 or higher hit die is usually full BaB, D8 is usually 3/4 BaB and D6 is usually 1/2 BaB (usually the rule but there are exceptions, one example being Dragon Disciple having a D12 Hit Die but only being 3/4 BaB). Since you can see the BaB on the character sheets it doesn't really matter, just kind of a fun fact about it.

@@michaelgrabner8977 you can gain an additional attack on a full round attack from bab at +6 +11 and +16 at a -5 to attack for each consecutive attack, so for example assuming a full bab class like fighter at level 6 you will have +6 to bab and can as a full round attack attack twice, once at +6 then again at +1. assuming full bab at level 20 this would mean as a full round attack you could hit 4 times from bab at +20, +15 ,+10, and +5.

+Werglia, do you not recommend turn based mode even for act 1 as someone is learning pathfinder mechanics? I get all of your points on why to use real-time with pause and they seem valid and I'm curious if you think for someone new to the genre if you think there is not value in turn based mode to learn the mechanics early on before switch to real-time mode exclusively, say after Act 1 or after you know the mechanics. Or maybe just using turn based mode for hard fight and real-time for most fights.

- More people play on turn-based cause it's easier - Turn-based is 10x times slower then real-time - A lot of people play real-time for easy fights then switch to turn-based on harder fights - I play all in real time Play on real-time, pause often, learn from your own mistakes.

9:20 Playing in realtime is the easymode to be honest since you can just burst people down before they can really act or get a spell off, which is not how its supposed to work, Pathfinder is a turn based system For example Minagho and Mutasafen fights are a joke in RTWP since you can just burst them down with 6 people before they get to act and get their attacks/bombs off. In turn based its much, much harder

Check advanced calculations for turn-based and RT before saying something like that cause you are wrong. To put it short here. I tested hardest fights in RT and Turn based too, it was at least 3x times easier to win on unfair with turn-based. Speaking about bursting, same thing can also happen to you from enemies in RT.

when you said something like turn-based is much harder than RT, i know you're not very deep into CRPG with turn-based and RTwP. every CRPG enthusiast knew RT is MUCH harder than turn-based one, which is why many franchise start to ditch RTwP. baldur's gate 3 for example, because larian know it'll be more accessible for newcomers. let me tell you an example : in a situation of turn-based, you need to defeat 4 enemy that always cast a devastating spell at start of the fight and only one enemy's initiative is ahead of your party. it's cake walk because your party have preemptive turn to interrupt behind 3 enemy before they can act, if you can't kill them all in one turn then you can mass-immobilize them and cheese them in following round. most of the case the enemy is died before they can act. RTwP on the other hand you have 4 enemy all start at 6 or less second countdown to roast you with powerful spell while your mass-immobilize spell is taking longer time to cast (powerful spell is usually need longer time to cast), your party is likely near death at the situation because the enemy hit you early than your spell can do to them. this is the difference between them, you're fighting the enemy one at a time or all enemy at a time. i myself was only enjoy RTwP system if i have a choice, turn-based is often too easy for me unless they have some unique mechanics that make the fight interesting, like DOS 2.

As much I love rtwp charge tactics, they have a huge flaw, a tiny bump in the floor or other non open rooms. As in not every fight gives you the set up, so that “easier” is very limited to when it is op or not.

Hi, great guide. Regarding hard difficulty, a few months ago e I have done a core until act 2 and seemed very doable, so now I wanted to start on hard. But at shield maze some fights are being to difficulty. Earth elements, lizards, ao the brutes. It’s normal? Or it’s just lack of skill 😅

And also I want to thank You for 2 great Unfair runs using real armored boyz as tanks in these runs. The majority of other youtubers playthroughs are filled with these awful unarmored "tanks" wearing robes and so on with no shields but with extremely high DEX and CHA parameters to increase their AC up to 60 and higher. So I'm just frustrated how Owlcat underdoged armored classes for tanking (which is kinda strange because of... WTF? Defense means that you have to be shielded and armored properly), but your playthroughs are most lorefriendly and atmospheric of all. Thank you!

Thanks for video! Where is the best tutotorial for "how does BAB works" ? as You say this is one of the most important things in the game. And maybe You can break down some fights with enemy inspection. For first playtrough I was just buffing my characters with super minimal knowledge (or not at all :D ) how does calculation works. : ) It was fun, but soon became boring as I was using best skills / buffs which I learned through all Yours n others tutorials without going into depth (it just worked but didnt get me any smarter .. lol). And I think that was the case which led from super hyped to "meh". I think if the game had more visualy explained with dices and all bonuses - it would get better image for those who are not familiar with table top role games.

There is no great guide on BAB in terms of video, you can find that explained very well on some forums or reddit pages. People that know how to play this game are there, none of them is a content creator. Once I do advanced guide I'll go in to details, this is beginner's guide for people that want to play the game for the first time on core and daring diff. Also aside BAB i'll need to cover stats on dice rolls and checks in the future videos.

I dunno if its considered cheating to be using a archetype from a mod (official Paizo published archetype though) Warlord Fighter from Prestige Plus mod. Lets you take a permanent +1 dodge bonus to AC instead of a bonus feat endlessly stacking as long as you are not wearing any armor. Also gives a dodge bonus to AC based off your CHA. The thing is dodge bonus to AC applies even when polymorphed so in demon forms you can get crazy high AC and damage. Just use other party members for support basically lol

Damn the stuff about realtime vs tactic mode being 10 times more fun is the opposite for me but i can 100% understand and also attest you spend WAY more time in tactic mode imagine doing so many runs and classes only in tactic mode it would take ages but as a beginner and a player who does maybe 1- max 2 campaign runs i still would say tactic mode is the better choice here

BG3 tactician is easier than most games default difficulty imo. DOS2 is quite a lot harder on tactician and WoTR just knocks em both out of the park

Hi Werglia! Thx for a nice guide. I noticed, that you've been mistaken a little at 20:11. Unit is not flat-footed when surrounded by 2 or more enemies. He is flat-footed only if he didn't act at the start of combat and while surprise round initiated by player's party. You can inflict flat-footed effect while attacking by character having "Shatter Defenses" feat a scared, feared, shaken, etc enemy also. That's why it's so important to get Shatter Defenses feat for any melee or ranged fighter and have some "scarer" in party such as bard, or fighters with high persuasion skill level and Dazzling Display feat.

Hey Weglia! Currently watching the video (I'm a pretty well versed player myself but I still just love throwing on videos like this to listen to) and I have a small clarification from your items and stacking section of the video. If I hear anything else as I'm listening I'll edit this message but just want to post as I hear it while it's fresh. You mention how items do not stack if they give the same bonuses and use the belt and helmet slot as an example saying that if you have a belt that gives +6 strength and a helmet that gives +4 strength you'll only count the +6 strength. The clarification is bonuses of the same type do not stack, the example you're giving is obviously about enhancement bonuses because you can get item bonuses to stack if they're different types of bonuses. Using the same slots you used as an example, belt and helmet. If you have a belt that gives a +6 Enhancement bonus to strength and a helmet that gives a +4 Profane bonus to strength, those bonuses would stack for a total of +10 to strength because they are different types of bonuses. The only bonuses that stack are dodge bonuses and circumstance bonuses (which are extremely rare in WoTR, more common in pen and paper). Using just dodge as an example if you have multiple dodge bonuses from different sources, say +1 from the dodge feat, +2 from a shirt and +1 from a ring just as an example, you'd get a full +4 dodge bonus to your AC. Edit - A note about your multiclassing section, I do like the suggestion to never multiclass on your first play through if you're a beginner but I also have an even further suggestion for people who have never even played a game like this. Just play a base fighter, no archetypes (the actual name for sub classes for people who don't know that term) from level 1-20. Big strong fighters are hard to build poorly with how many extra feats they get. Other people will suggest other classes like Slayer, but it's harder to build a bad Fighter than it is a bad Slayer. Plus with a Fighter all of their bonuses are always active where as something like Slayer you have to activate studied target maybe in some fights against tougher opponents. Fighters just work and unless you pick up a feat like Dazzling Display, which you have to use to benefit from, your bonuses will just always be active. Edit 2 - A note about metamagic. Rather than using an evocation with empower build to learn, use the metamagic rods to learn. They only cost gold or can be found and don't take feats and don't increase spell levels. They're a fantastic way to learn what the metamagic effects are doing without having to spend a feat. Just know that metamagic rods do not increase the spell level of the spell they affect, so when you know what your metamagics do and you're ready to take the feats make sure to read the feat and look for the line that mentions how many spell levels it increases it by. Empower Spell for example increases a spell's level by 2, so if you Empower Spell a Fireball for example it goes from using a 3rd level spell slot to a 5th level spell slot. That's a very important difference from metamagic rods that you will have to learn when/if you decide to use metamagic feats.
