Werkstatt vs Mavis - Is One Better? You Decide

What do you think, is the Mavis better than the Werkstatt?

If you are into eurorack then yes. It’s also 3 times the price for almost the same thing which is wild.

I finally bought a Moog Mavis. I wanted to get started with analog synth, and I figured this was a good way to begin. I think it sounds great, and I have been able to get some rich sounds. It is a great way to learn modular synth.

I love both and am really glad I have both! The wavefolding and other utilities on the Mavis are awesome, but a maybe unconventional reason I love the Werkstatt is _because_ of the patch cables. Being able to easily interface with Arduino, Bastl Kastles, Volca Modular, and AE Modular stuff, while still connecting to other modular gear with the expander is really cool to me.

Hi! So I am interested in using Werkstatt and Mavis together to help me decide on going for Mavis or hold out, save my money, and go for the M32. How's it going if you have both already? Any patch ideas or videos you recommend to see these 2 working together?

I have the Mavis, but I'd like a Werkstatt just to get an additional voice. The extra patching is a bonus.

They are great little synths with not so great price tags for what they are. It cool the older one is now going for around 100.

Since the Mother-32 is just a Werkstatt with extra utilities, midi, and a sequencer, I'm waiting for a Mother-32 MK2 that's really an updated Mavis. A M-32 with ADSR and wavefolder and (hopefully) 2 OSC would be pretty cool. Of course no one knows what's in store for Moog at this point.

Prob not gonna happen huh 😞. I would just get the m32. Cheap used. These devices are cool but I see them more as educational toys with some potential. Like how a Casio Sk1 has potential. You can use it… but you can do better.

I decided to finally pull the trigger on getting the claravox to go with my werkstatt after the announcement of them getting acquired, and was thinking about the mavis just for the wavefold, good to see an honest comparison. I wish they weren't killing off the old moog app's like filtatron to try to sell the moogerfooger plugins, using old cellphone as an effects pedal was a neat way to keep using old cellphone instead of letting it sit in a closet.

The filter and oscillator are the same circuits, of course they sound the same. But the other features really seperate them into different devices. Werkstatt is an amazing value for a Moog synthesizer, I was really impressed with it. Mavis is basically the same but much better if you have a eurorack system and don't have a Mother-32.

Grabbed a used werkstatt for 100. A steal for getting the basic building blocks of the moog sound. When it arrives I'm planning on running it through the minifreak

W sounds slightly better, slightly more raw, to me … but the added features and refinement of the Mavis probably outweigh that slight difference …

Love the video! I have the Werkstatt-01 w CV Expander...how about showing how both this and the Mavis could work together. I would love the M32 but I can afford the Mavis so considering that option if I can see how I can work with both and using my Arturia Keystep or my good old Arturia Beatstep to provide some sequencing. Thanks!

De acuerdo. Algo que olvidé de mencionar es que el werkstatt se puede usarlo con cables de jumper patch. Esos pequeños cables. Y conectarlo con el Volca Modular y Bastl Castle. Y gracias por tu apoyo man ✌️

I’ve not heard of the Marvis. The Mavis Wavefolder though sounds better modulated.
