OK, here what I did,. I bought this at Home depot and like most I hate reading long long long instructions. So I found this video and watched it twice then put in my attic ladders. Piece of cake. Outstanding video. Two thumbs up!

Darnell Jones on the warner aluminum latter how do you adjust the piston/cylinder if the door does not shut

I didn't have to adjust the piston. Once I put the ladder in place everything fit fine.

Glad this video clearly shows where the hold-closed twist tie is supposed to be. As soon as I pulled the packaging off the ladder, I found a pair of loose twist ties and a note that read, "Do not remove until instructed."

If you use the pry bar from the inside you'll have the wood to leverage off of and less chance of drywall damage.
