Definitely.. addicts are usually very sensitive, with huge hearts.. we just think too much and need to stay out of our own heads.. A lot of us use drugs to escape, because we struggle to cope with pain and all the fu€ked up sh!t in this world. Many of us struggle with depression, anxiety, low self esteem, loneliness, etc. But once an addict learns how to cope and deal with their feelings, without turning to their drug of choice, and once they recover, most addicts are extremely down to earth, authentic, empathetic, loyal people ..I HATE who I become when I’m in the grips of my addiction. I wasted soooo many years as a slave to drugs.. in and out of jails, rehabs, detoxes, shelters, halfway houses, etc. Years of homelessness, living on the streets of Harlem, Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island.. in all the worst neighborhoods cuz that’s where the drugs are. Subjecting myself to the most hellish existence imaginable. Miraculously, I am still alive.. I have several years off the drugs, and still tryna learn how to live like a normal person. Still struggling with severe depression. But once you endure such pain and suffering, and you survive through all of the hell that addiction brings you, it really changes your outlook on life.. most of us are really kind, caring people. We just lose ourselves when we’re using.. Getting into drugs was the biggest regret of my life, and 99% of addicts feel the same. I’ve lost sooo many friends to this disease.. great people. I lost my own brother to this sh!t. There’s nothing I hate more than addiction. I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. But yeah, if you make it through and overcome your addiction, you can overcome ANYTHING. Sorry for the long, personal rant lol
