I loved that Perturabo scene. I always pictured him speaking conversationaly. Pleasant, perhaps a bit amused. "Come, listen. The perpetual engine motor is misaligned. You can hear it misfiring." Maybe even a little, honest smile. And then he beats head-desks Fulgrim for a minute. So good.

He’s monologuing from a wall wondering if Dorn is going to waste his time trying to reason with him, Dorn responds to the dramatic taunting with a simple “No” and kicks Fulgrims ass. Also that Dorn has a robe from his Human Father he cares around with him because he’s too big to actually wear it. He’s known to sleep with it and was confronted at one point walking the halls after recently waking up carrying the robe like a kids holding a blanket. The image alone is funny to me that this serious stone faced man basically sleeps with a comfort blanket like a little kid while also being a 10 foot tall demigod of a man.

For me, one of the most hilarious exchanges in the Horus Heresy is when Fulgrim is battling Dorn on the walls of the Imperial Palace, incessantly monologuing grandiloquently, trying to taunt his brother only for Dorn to pretty much ignore him completely and keep interrupting him by smashing his face with his shield, which frustrates him to no end.

The best part about Fulgrim needing a literal theater built just to explain his plan is that it 200% played into Perturabo’s private and personal desire to make buildings. Fulgrim’s playing him, Perturabo almost certainly knows he’s being played, but it’s a win-win if they both lean into it. Fulgrim gets to be dramatic, Perturabo gets to build stuff. Perturabo: “You want me to do my favorite thing in the world? What I was literally built for?” Fulgrim: “Yes.” Perturabo: “If I MUST…”

@@adrienwatson2179 oh I agree. I think Fulgrim has similar problems to Horus, in that they had the chaos worshipping monster after they fell and this vague more loyal version before their fall. And i really don't think the writers for the Horus Heresy books quite knew how to bridge those versions within the due dates Games Workshop provided. So at least too me both of their falls do not land at all for me and come of as silly not tragic. What I meant by not being a complete joke is that even when the writers poke fun at his eccentricities he still has a genuine edge of threat, gravitas and narrative tension, like the tone of the character is a moment of comedy not that Fulgrim the character is only comic relief. But ya pre-fall Fulgrim is a tool on his good days and a walking talking dickwaffle most of the time

One of my favorite moments has got to be when the Eternal Justicar (I forgot his name, but his title is ‘Eternal Justicar) died in battle against a daemon and while they were holding his funeral, he just busted out of his tomb and said (paraphrasing) “Where did that daemon go? I wasn’t finished.” It was only after several years of interrogation and testing that they realized he wasn’t possessed or reanimated by a daemon, he’s just a perpetual. So now he just comes back to life in the middle of fights and it can be either badass, hilarious, or both at the same time.

In angel exterminatus, Fulgrim first tries to peak perturabos interest to hear about the angel exterminatus. When he finally agrees to listen, Fulgrim says he needs a proper stage for his story, so he butters Perturabo up until he agrees to BUILD the auditorium in a day or two. I really liked that book. There is a scene when Perturabo snaps and smashes Fulgrims face into a table and drags it along so Fulgrims face becomes a bloody pulp. Fulgrims reaction is like "noted".

In "Fallen Angels" there is a moment in with a group of Dark Angels is driving a brand new Rhino transport and they complain that the vehicle is not painted in their colour but is covered only with primer paint. 2. In Fulgrim novel Horus is giving this pompous speech to Fulgrim (about Emperor and his wrongdoings) and Fulgrim is like (not actual quote, it is from memory) "did you practise this speach for me?" and the respond is: "yes, is it working?" Fulgrim again "yeah, pleas continue". 3. Jaghatai Khan roasting Fulgrim (supermodel again!) about weird things he is doing to his marines.

If I had to add a moment to this list, it would have to be from "The Infinite and the Divine." First off, as a whole, there are so many hilarious moments in it from just the various Necron lords all scheming and trying to screw each other over. Like, over the millions of years that have transpired, they've never changed being just incredibly petty with one another. But the cake goes to the moment Trazyn the Infinite inadvertently causes a genestealer incursion by letting loose a Tyranid on Orikhan as a prank. 300 years later, when the cult is in the process of wiping out the planet they were working on, Trazyn is just like, "Oh ........... well - in my defense, I didn't know they were contagious." I was laughing so hard at that I was in tears.

Trazyn, but what takes the cake for me is not when he is actively being sarcastic or arrogant, but when even he has had enough. *SPOILER* from _"The Infinite and the Divine"_ The scene where Trazyn has had enough of Orikan's foolery with his museum and stealthily opens a hyper-dimensional portal to shoot Orikan's head off with a Deathmark's Synaptic Disintegrator and exits without saying a word. Trazyn was so pissed he didn't even have a witty remark or comment, just silent anger. No flare. No pomp. Just straight up murdered him. He almost point-blank cores out his head with the Necron equivalent of a Barret .50 cal. This didn't kill Orikan of course...just really, really upset him and continued their rivalry.

What makes that even better is that it's part of an escalating back-and-forth between them where they've been stealing a supersecret high-tech gadget back and forth. That's it, they've mostly just been showing up to go 'nyah nyah' and steal it back. Then Orikan trashes an exhibit in the process of stealing it back and THAT'S when Trazyn snaps. Shows up, shoots Orikan in the face, and leaves. Without even stealing the damn thing this time. "You can keep it!" Yeah, that takes me out every time.

That's always been something of the rub when it comes to 40k. It's so intentionally and over the top grimdark that it's practically built to not be taken seriously. Crossing the line from horrific to absurd on a regular basis. Like a Monty Python skit gone sentient and homicidal. It's one of the reasons I enjoy the Ciaphas Cain books so much. In a weird way, they reflect the kind of dry, dark, sardonic sense of humor you'd probably need to remain even marginally sane in a universe were literally everything, up to and including your own allies, is trying to either screw you, kill you, or eat you. Usually some combination of the three and the order being optional.

I would love to see you do an ongoing series of goofy 40k moments like the ones in this video. I'd like to imagine a scene in some book where a Space Marine and an Ork disarm each other, then get into a tumbling hand to hand brawl. The scene is described from two angles: The Marine's view, all serious and stuff; Then the other view from some Guardsmen and a Snobby Commisar that just see a slapstick fight between a space marine and a greenskin.

My favorite part about Guilliman is in dark imperium when he and some ultramarines and a group of custodies are attacking Mortarion’s fleet. Custode leader asks Roboute if that’s smart given how he could potentially die and Guilliman reminds him entire plan of this assault reminding custode, that had he not asked him if that’s smart he wouldn’t have to listen to it all over again. Those little bits of humanity and humor do a lot to flesh him out as a character

Here is a funny moment I really like. Tech Priest mistakes *Tyberos The Red Wake* for a statue and then gets shit scared when "statue" moves. Also for those who don't know who Tyberos is. He is a Space Marine from Space Sharks chapter and he is really *BIG.* How big? As big as a Dreadnought.

Literally anything Wynston Frauker does is gold (A blank in service of Inquisitor Gideon Ravenore)! He had a hilarious bit in the 3rd ravenore book where he casually joked and made last requests when he was about to be executed (to buy time). And all through the Ravenore books kept it funny. Mans literally peeped on a telekyne psycher changing, called her a patsy, and when 3 knives were psychicly held inches from his face he took a deep drag of his lowstick and said "alright I guess you're not a patsy" then he turned the page of the porno he was reading as the knives went back into the changing room. I find it funny how Garviel Loken after the Ivstaan III massacre went insane from surviving the virus and fire bombing and when he was finally found him they had to subdue him, then brought him on a ship, he sat down next to a garden and his recently killed friend Tarik Targoddon shows up and goes "No, you no crazy" and Garviel was like "Shit aight" Garviel Loken is by far my favorite non Primarch character from the Horus Heresy

The way Jurgen is described in the Cain books is hilarious. Amberley Vail says that he was officially allowed not to shave because Cain might be afraid to see what's underneath the facial hair.

Yeah, the Cain books are an absolutely gold mine for stuff like that. My absolute favorite moment is when Cain was recounting talking to a street urchin who uses a bit of local slang. A footnote number is next to the word she used since even in context it's hard to suss out what she meant. But when you look down the page to the footnote to find out what word means Vail's comment is "No, I don't know either." Said urchin would eventually become one of Vale's retinue so the fact that even after all the years of dealing with her directly, that Vail still didn't understand her slang had me rolling.

One of my favorites is with Fulgrim and Perturabo's mastercraft model of a titan. Perturabo is having a serious talk with Fulgrim and is showing Fulgrim an articfer level model of a titan he built. And fulgrim isnt interested and blows it off. And he tells fulgrim if he looks closely he to really see what is special about it. When Fulgrim leans in to see what he is talking about Perturabo smashes the model into his face, and beats the hell out of Fulgrim with it to make a point and let out some aggression caused by taking too much of fulgrims's shit

My favorite part is the Orks who managed to win the game. They got themselves set up in the warp, fighting khorne daemons for all eternity, coming back to life whenever they die. Either that, or the Adeptus Administratum almost causing a civil war in a system because they ran out of room to file paperwork.

I love the part in the The Siege of Castellax. Where there is a fireteam of iron warriors, and they convince one of them to eat an ork brain so they learn how to fly a dakkajet so they can escape. It takes off with such speed they are barely able to hold on. So they try to use the brake, which doesn't work. And the iron Warrior who ate the ork brain recalls the memory that the ork didn't want to seem weak to the other Orks and had disabled the brakes.

@@weshammer It's in the Ciaphas Cain novel "The Emperor's Finest." That series is a goldmine for funny facts! The techpriest uses a CAT and explains that its not heresy because they don't have AI, they just move in a straight line until they hit something, then rotate 10 degrees, and keep going, like a roomba. The inquisitor "author" of the book writes a footnote saying, "Despite these pious assertions, and though true servants of the Omnissiah would vigorously deny the fact, to outsiders they seem less like recreational construction projects than pets."

Some of the funniest moments in the lore are just like cheeky one-liners from the heresy, like the conversation between Jaghatai and Fulgrim: Fulgrim- "He wants to be left alone, to shoot off into the stars and hunt down xenos on those delightful jetbikes. They're devilishly fast. I heard from a contact on Mars, Jaghatai, that you do strange things to your ships." Jaghatai Khan- "I heard you do strange things to your warriors." Another good one when Konrad locked Vulkan in that impossible maze with his teleporter hammer at the end and Vulkan finds the hammer only to find out that Konrad was blocking the hammer's teleporting ability: Konrad Curze- "Did you think you had broken me, brother? Did you believe you had tricked me into letting you escape? Hope is cruel, Isn't it? Yours was false, Vulkan." Vulkan- "You're right. I fashioned it as a teleporter, a means to escape even a prison such as this. I counted on you leading me here, on you *needing* to face me one last time. It seems I was fooled into thinking you hadn't planned for this. But you're forgetting one thing..." Konrad- "What's that, brother?" Vulkan- "It is also a hammer." [*thwaks Konrad with enough force to knock the head off a horse*]
