It wasn't a "brilliant queen sacrifice". Actually, no sacrifice at all (the Q takes N move was very natural).

There were pass pawns for white with a rook! Why not give up the game? Black hoping for a stalemate?

Based on the current game state, it is safe to say that Wesley So is in an unbeatable position with two pawns and a rook in his possession. Even if he were to make a mistake, his position is strategically stronger than Vasily Volovich's. With the pawns placed strategically and the black king unable to make any significant moves, Vasily Volovich's chances of winning are close to none. In fact, it would be wise for Vasily Volovich to resign earlier rather than later, as the outcome of the game seems inevitable.
