West Camel Model Railway Exhibition 2022 - 30/12/2022

30th December 2022 saw the return of the West Camel Model Railway Society's Christmas Model Railway Exhibition held at Davis Hall, West Camel, Somerset.
The show featured no less than ten visiting and club layouts and dioramas in a variety of gauges and scales, as well as a good selection of trade, demo and society stands.

There is a wonderful intimacy with these layouts and scenes. So much care has been taken to a the little touches that make the overall effect perfect! Sometimes, we Americans go for the Railroad Empire approach and only a few can pull it off successfully. Cheers!

@@SDJR7F88 Yeah - Charlie put out one of his vids asking people to get there after 1200. We got there just before 1300 and it was still heaving, but cleared slowly and the last couple of hours were very enjoyable. Did you capture my Grandson operating the fiddle yard on 'Wimborne'?

You can look into micro layouts, like boxfile layouts. Or channels like budget model rail who make stuff from cardboard!

@@totalal4601 thanks :). I’m one of those all-or nothing weirdos, so if I’m going to do it, I’ll do it properly. You don’t have to buy it all at once anyway. I might get a basic Hornby set and build on it monthly.

@@StarWarsJay if you're going to do it "properly", don't start with a train set. You need to be very willing to put-in the work to achieve results.

@@StarWarsJay Cheapest way, I think, to get into it "properly" is to start scouring eBay for 2nd hand stuff. A lot of older locos and rolling stock can be found for relatively low prices; you might need to do some work on them to get them up to snuff, but that's half the fun, right? Track, though, I'd buy new (having bought a load of 2nd hand track - it's too much of a pain to clean up & use IME.

No, the 6 x 4 layout I could not stop the children ( and Adults ) from using between the double doors by Wimborne. To be fair it was a little on the dark side in their, but all in all it was a great day and YES it was superbly run event.

Hi Callum. The video: Nicely shot but a little lacking in information on the layouts; at least one was apparently nameless, and none of them had had their gauges/scales announced. We could have guessed, of course, and we would have probably guessed most of them correctly, but it would have been nice to have known. The layouts: A couple of them had models running too fast (Up the Creek and Bovington Junction [the tram], which I found a little surprising).

Hi Paul, all info is listed video description and per all my exhibition videos :) As for the running, I don't blame them for the speed, as I understand the reasoning behind both set-up. Both models you mentioned use old mechanisms, the tram is z gauge and also has gravity on its side

The Hurricane is attached to its own little rail system hidden under the board. As it travels along the runway, the gradient increases, giving the effect of the plane taking off

This must be near the 'Camel Trail' from Wadebridge to Wenford Bridge (An old Railway Line) in Cornwall. Also near the River Camel 🤔🚂🚂🚂
