This interview is painful to listen to because I attended performances at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City "not enough" during the 18 years of 1991 to 2009. At the time you think something will last forever and then it doesn't. When the Bakery closed Ruth tried to raise money to build a new club in Culver City (designed gratis by Frank Gehry) but the project never made it to the finish line. I remember Ruth introducing acts at the Bakery that were world class, and I regret not appreciating it fully at the time but that's the way life is especially when you're young (under 40). The Jazz Bakery in Culver City was like The Village Vanguard in NYC in the 1950s and 60s. In retrospect a gold mine of live jazz during a golden age. C'est la vie!
