This is footage from Day 1 of two we spent on the West Coast Wilderness Railway in Tasmania in December. This shows the trip on the Strahan to Dubbil Barril section of the line.
The 3 steam locomotives used on this line are 0-4-2 tank engines with ABT Rack and Pinion gear fitted for the mountain section of the line. There were originally 5 locos built, Mount Lyell No's 1, 3 and 5 are still in service on the line. No. 2 is in the Tasmanian Transport Museum in Glenorchy, and No. 4 was the only one to be scrapped when the line closed. This video features Mount Lyell ABT locomotive No. 5.
Day 2 to follow soon with footage of the Queenstown to Dubbil Barril section including footage from my Footplate experience.
