Hi Stel, So here is my longshot-for-fun bet this Sunday: Man City loose to West Ham but Arsenal loosing to Everton means that City are crowned Champions. Aston Villa loose at Crystal Palace. Spuds beat Sheffield Utd but because they wanted to loose to City they now fail to get Champions League football. Bloody perfect!!

I think Earthy, as good as he is, needs a loan in League 1, being roughed up by tough defenders. Potts also needs another season out on loan, this time at a Championship club (Liam Manning our former Youth Manager is now Head Coach at Bristol City). Dan Chesters is the one who will make the 25 man squad. Two new full/wing backs, plus Emerson and Chesters will do us.

Stel, regarding HG, one young player that would qualify as a HG for the squad is Dan Chesters (22), can play RB or RWB, plus you still have Andy Irving (24), if they decide to bring him in from Austria for Lopetegui to take a look at.

It’s not really about whether the youngsters are good enough, indeed they may or may not be, but you never know unless you give those with promise the minutes they deserve and then you can decide their true ability accordingly. Not giving them the chance to prove their worth that they have earned is the real issue.

It will be interesting to see whether lopetegui thinks any of them are capable of making it in the premier league So far, over the past few years we’ve had Rice, Johnson, Cullen (relegated with Burnley) and Burke (relegated with Luton). So one could argue that our academy players haven’t done anywhere near as well as we would like them to, otherwise more premier league teams would be clamouring to sign them up The last few years has seen fans going nuts once mubama, Ashby, Ngakia, Diangana, Perkins amongst others. But again none of these players have proven to be premier league level

People are saying 6 new signings needed. If we're losing 12 players from a a squad that's too small already, even if you add some academy players 6 signings is far from enough.

I can't see you being right about only 6 players coming in Stel. God help us if you are. Before January, we had an empty space in the squad that had been kept open for Lingard. Then in January, Kehrer, Fornals, Benny and Coventry left and are effectively sold. Phillips is going back to City. Oggie and Cress will almost certainly retire or leave, Aguerd, Johnson and Paqueta look fairly certain to leave and there are question marks over Antonio and Ings must surely be off. I'm not including Kudus cos I don't believe that will happen this summer and I expect Fab to be given another year. I'm also not including Zouma because he is so broken that he can't be sold because he would never pass a medical, though he MIGHT be paid off. Assuming there are no other surprise departures. I'm all for promoting 2 or 3 young players like Earthy, Casey and Scarles or Potts, but they are supposed to be in addition to the 25 man senior squad not instead of. So 6 incomers will leave us with a severely depleted senior squad mate even though we won't have Europe next season. I'm hugely excited by Moore and Marshall, but I think they need another year to fill out. I hope we bring Downes back btw. I would prefer we go back for Palhinha rather than Onana.

Agree completely. If we don't retain more players then 6 new signings will certainly not be enough. Thank you for noting Zouma's unsaleability too. I think it's wishful thinking by those thinking anyone will buy him when he is a permanent crock.

I don’t disagree Phil, but transfer funds will only go so far. This is why I think Lopetegui will look at trying to rebuild the careers of some of the players we already have - such as cornet etc. I’d love for us to get more than 6 players and it’s not impossible to do so. We did sign 9 players in 22/23 season and that cost us around £189m.

@@WESTHAMVOICE Yeah, Stel, I didn't include Cornet cos I don't think we're in a position to replace him too, and as I said I hope we bring Downes back. We do need to bring in more than 6 players though, as I detailed. Of course there are risks with bringing in lots of players too, both in getting them to gel as a unit and meeting their playing time expectations. But that's the position Moyes has left us in despite spending so much and writing off so much. I hope we pay the bucks for key starters, plus 2 or 3 Championship players who won't expect guaranteed starts and maybe 2 or 3 loans to fill out the squad. I can't see the budget stretching otherwise either.

Aguerd and kehrer would be good under J Lo but i doubt either will be here next season. Out of the 2, kehrer is the more likely to stay here but with Monaco in the CL then he's going to want to stay there.

But Tim Steiden already has an analytical assistant with him surely this will end up with a conflict of interests re new players. I honestly think this will see Stieden walk away sadly.
