Anyone who thinks that today's Premier League is faster, more skilful, or more exciting than football 40 years ago should watch these highlights. What it did lack however was players falling over at the slightest touch, players feigning injury, and stupid refereeing decisions which encourage them to try it on.

Decent match highlights unlike today's shower of sh*t: full of analysis and countless replays.

I remember listening to this match on the radio when I was a lad. This was a massive game.

I was there that night. It was a really good game. Nearly got beaten up by Spurs fans. The atmosphere was super electric. What great teams, both with many international players at their prime. One of the great nights under the floodlights at Upton Park (God, I miss that place). It was a cold night in the east end, the smell from the burger vans, touts calling out, etc. When David Cross's bullet header hit the back of the net deep into the second half 82nd minute (i think). Priceless Yes! We loved every second of it. COYI

Upton Park (God I miss that place) The blood and sweat, plus maybe a few teeth, of nearly 80 years of football on that grass then. It stays in the soil, the energy of combat. I once went to the Coliseum in Rome and you could still feel the energy of the madness that went on there hundreds of years ago. If you just stand there and empty your thoughts you feel what's left in the soil and remains of the building.

Alvin Martin should have replaced Phil Thompson at the back for England at this stage post 1980 with a Young Terry Butcher alongside him..

Another memorable night game at UP, the same season we lost in the final to Liverpool, but got promoted from second division. I watched this match from west side terrace, the Spurs had 8000+ that night,, id only known Chelsea in march 78 and Villa (FA cup) in march 80 to be allocated the whole southbank up till then, although Coventry had the same in next round the semis. My mate Jono still talks about how a mob of west ham got in with the spurs but were forced into the s.e corner, he jumped up when cross scored and a 'known' Spurs lad nutted him bursting his nose all over his Benetton jumper 😅....his claim to fame!

@@henryclarke5363 your right, that was the most Spurs id seen at Upton park, i rhink Spurs were expected to win that game as they were a division above us. Great atmosphere back then, you had to have your wits about you even on way home, glad we lived them times. 👍
