I had a bad surging problem with my new inflatable where it would ventilate air when trying to get onto plane. I tried raising the PSI of the tubes from 2.0 to 3.5, stiffening the boat floor, and looked for other solutions. In the end, I found a fix that raised the top speed from 6.3 to 9.9 mph - a 44% gain!

Nice video and a small recomendation just buy a small anchor and leave the dinghy in shallow water not touching the floor this will extend the life of your dinghy and not have any punture. Keep the videos coming 👍

I’m considering buying a Tohatsu 3.5 for my inflatable. Thanks for the video review and posting the link to the prop.

Your position in the boat will make a big difference. A telescopic tiller extension allows you to move up to 3ft forward. Great video, I’m off to buy some dolphin fins . Thanks.

I have a doel fin on my 18ft aluminium walk through with an 85hp outboard, came with the used boat. I decided to take it off to see if it made a difference. It does! A little higher top speed because I can trim more of the boat out of the water without porpoising. It's also more stable in rough water. As an added bonus it keeps swimmers off the prop and has been used as a step. Def try it on the Boston. PS still love the blackout ;-)

I think your video just might have changed my purchase choice for a dinghy to my sailboat. Thanks, there are few vids that take a minimalist approach to planing (getting on a plane with the most economical setup)!

Thanks. Just had a similar boat and same motor out for the first time today, and I have the same problem.

Changing the propeller didn’t do I for me. But I can’t get my self to drill holes to install the finn.

I know it's 2 years after you posted... but if you had cute a floor piece for the bow section of the dingy, that would have helped it plane better also...

This dinghy isn't designed to plane, but you did a good job of making it do so! It's a full displacement boat. In order to plane nicely, you need a RIB "Rigid Inflatable Boat". That's according to the manufacturer anyway. They are fantastic shit-to-shore boats, for tooling around the marina, island hopping etc. Thanks for the video!

so the best thing was to change the propeller from plastic composite to aluminium? are they still the same size as the original one? 7.4inch x 5.7pitch ?

Its called hydrodynamics for things that move thru water, the doel-fins aren't supposed to act like an airplane wing or provide lift. Thats something completely different called a hydrofoil, which is designed to create lift and support the vessel weight. Not the same principals at all really, fyi... :(

Why do you think the new prop made such a big difference? Did it have a greater pitch? Can you compare the old and new with some numbers? Thanks!

why do akl these vudeos spend fufteen minutes staring at the tail of the boat and telling stories about what you did after breakfast, leving us scrubbing forward to the bit where we actually see the boat and notor working. ??? people do not want to sit listening to woffle of ten minutes before seeing the content
