Somehow I’m back here watching this for the first time in six years. I was in this, so I know it by heart, but I’ve never actually watched this performance from the stands until now, beyond when we would watch it after each football game to analyze it. Idk why, I just felt like looking back on old memories. This was one hell of a year. Personally, 2019 was a difficult year for me, so this show meant a lot to me. It was what got me through the day. Shoutout to the 2019 WMHS band! Thank you for making my year special. I will always remember this.

What year did you graduate? I am a senior in band this year, and things are starting to pick back up. My freshman year was hit with covid, and it seems as though the band has lost a lot of tradition. New uniforms, new fight song, but I wanna know what the overall mentality was like back then because I feel that's the biggest change.

@@LXLdrummer I graduated in 2020! :) The band was very serious back then. We were one of the top high school bands, so we always focused on making sure everything was absolutely perfect. Showcase was a big deal. But we still had a lot of fun! We used to go across the road to Burger Grind every Friday between school and the games and all 200+ of us would fill up the building chatting and eating. Every December we had a “winter dance” just for the band and we had a Christmas party with each section. We also had this tradition where we would play our show music and some stand tunes in the Convention Center up the road for parents. We had after school and before school practice, so sometimes we’d be at school until like 6 and at other times we’d get there at 5am. During concert season, we only practiced after school. At the end of the year we had an award show and we would get a gift for the directors and some of the other staff, which we all contributed to. Don’t forget we also marched for the inaugural parade one year! Plus we marched during the West Monroe Christmas parade, and we would play for events like the musical. And of course we had band camp before school every year! We had a lot going on, we were constantly practicing, but we had so much fun.

@lu4165 Definitely sounds like there was more dedication. Maybe that's just because there were more of yall lol, but yeah, it's still very similar to how it is now. I'm sure Freeman or Saunders would always tell yall before a parade that you have the ability to be an inspiration to some little kid at the parade. That was me lol. I'd always go just to see the band because I grew up watching wm football RELIGIOUSLY

Last year was my first year in band and im on cologuard, and this was either out 4th or 5th competition of the season. I remember watching this live and being so freaking amazed at how beautiful it all was! This was by far my favorite show!
