The U.S. used to have nuclear weapons in Turkey. Turkey is part of N.A.T.O., the U.S. used Turkish air bases in the first Gulf war. Turkey doesn't fly Russian combat aircraft, they fly U.S. fighter jets. Turkeys tanks are not of the Russian variety either. Turkey is more Western leaning than Russian. They try to play both sides of the fence in order to negotiate better outcomes for themselves. Example, they stalled the signing of allowing Sweden into N.A.T.O. in order to get modernized F16 from the U.S. and probably money or other help after that disastrous earthquake that hit a few years ago.
