I don't think they have a choice, especially Rachel, Ariana, Mike and David, since they're promoting a movie they've worked so hard on and don't want to throw all that labor of love under the bus for the seemingly unproven "allegation" of just 1 person. This is just the beginning for Rachel and Ariana. Plus they're probably all under contract to do all these press.

Calling it "influence" seems mild since West Side Story is essentially their creation. Sondhein wrote the lyrics or essentially the dialogue since it was a musical and Bernstein wrote the music. Neither of them were Puerto Rican or had any Hispanic heritage. Both of them were gay, white, Jewish men who grew up in middle-class families. What makes this ironic is that the basis for the criticism of the 1961 film is that none of the major characters were played by actors, with the exception of Rita Moreno, who were Puerto Rican or had other Hispanic heritage. Some people are making the Spielberg directed film out to be a needed correction of this. This is nonsense. The Robert Wise directed movie remains a classic.
