I've played percussion in this music, and it's not simple. But we had a full percussion section doing what this one percussion artist is doing. He's pretty darn amazing!

@@maxmikkelsen166 Actually, Bernstein wrote it for 5 percussion and drumset. It's hardly ever done that way--too cost-prohibitive. It'll be my turn to do what this talented player is doing: I have to play all percussion parts (except set) for an outdoor production next month. It'll be my third WSS.

The think I always thought that percussion and vibraphone/marimba/glockenspiel were played by different people. Like one is rythm the other Melody. I never expected it to be the same

Pit and concert percussion are different. In concert you'd have multiple people since many of the parts overlap. Theater music is written with pit musicians in mind, so the parts overlap as little as possible, which helps cut down on space

nicely done, and thank you for sharing :) as much as i love the fireworks in Mambo, the beautiful little simple antique cymbal and maraca moments in the Cha Cha are one of my favourite bits of percussion writing in all of musical theatre; sure, there's other instruments doing melody and harmony etc, but the percussion here gives the texture just the perfect light and playful feel. what a show
