Another good vid :-) Get a darn kickstand for that bike! Don't listen to whoever told you not to. They're practical and inconvenient. I think once you decide to camp alone for the first time, you'll really enjoy it. And you'll start doing it more often. Of course, always be alert and aware of your surroundings.

My kind of person, I've biked the Greenbriar trail but not all in one go though. and yeah, what I need to do, take a mycology class, the only way to be absolutely sure is to know your spore. There's a super quiet - and I mean quiet, few to no airplanes overhead type stuff - behind Watauga State Park, Beaver Creek Campgroud. There's also a cool orchid class once a year at the Cranberry Glades visitor center early July or something. Just noticed some tiny little mushrooms in my front yard, got little "X"s in them, I suspect that's a function of store mulch, wherever they get that from.

That looks like a great trail! Girl, I rock a kickstand proudly! 😆🤓 It's perfect for my level, I just do recreation trails like that and easy mountain bike trails. If I got into any serious downhill I would prob take it off. I understand not wanting one for that or serious road racing or something. But for relatively chill trips and rides, I think it's 100% fine, and 100% useful and convenient!

Thanks for the video. I love to hunt mushrooms, so don’t have much around here in Indiana anymore to places to hunt. I used to at least do 1000 miles on my bicycle. I can’t even get up on it now I’m 63 retired. I’m trying to get myself in shape so I can get back up on my bicycle, but thank you for the inspiration. If you’re ever around Muncie, Indiana get on the Cardinal Greenway long trail. I would love to spend time with you. You seem like a nice person.💙🇺🇸💙

Nice vid, some great photography, and of course you’re exploring my home state so what’s not to love about this. Some of the mushrooms and lichen I’ve seen there were incredible. Get yourself out into the Cranberry Backcountry, you will not be disappointed. And buy that kickstand! People who tell other people how to set up their bikes need a good poke in the eye! I have three bikes and I have two kickstands. One bike is an exercise and it doesn’t need one 😆

If you want one of the safest yet most rewarding first time bikepacking trips you will likely find, try the Greenbrier rail trail (in WV). It is considered one of the most scenic rail trails in the country. Most of the trail follows a river, so it is probably moist enough that you will see mushrooms along the whole route. It is very good for first time bikepackers for a 2 or 3 day trip because it is a super easy route to follow (no bike gps needed), it has several resupply points for food, is not physically demanding (not hilly), and there are tenting sites right along the trail every few miles for the whole route. Your Liv bike (Giant manufactures that) is perfect for Greenbrier trail. I am heading to the Davis area (famous for mountain and gravel biking, aside from hiking) real soon and am hoping to do at least a half dozen different bikepacking and gravel rides of different lengths. Tons of rail trails in that area between Davis down to the Greenbrier Trail which I also will be doing.

You should get one of those double sided kick off fwd to drive kick stands that balance the whole rear of the bike for loading it with gear. It looks familiar where you are at, I live in SE Ohio, pretty close to WV and took off in that state camping and hiking a lot since I was a teenager

When you come back check out route 150 but be careful on the hills i just use low gear and pump the brakes so they cool down .Falls of Hills creek, Cranberry Glades and on north is green bank observatory, Seneca rocks and my favorite is the German Valley overlook cabins and there is a trail called Harman Rocks that has a heck of a view but watch for snakes and i recommend 4 wheel drive cause the hill is rough and steep. Be careful out there.

You should try a head mounted camera for when you are doing things like making your way through the woods, it would make it much easier for you, but the downside is we will not be able to see you. You can get different holders that will work with a phone or a GoPro

You mentioned fungus on bugs... sometimes I spot what looks like bits of white wood ash but notice they're flying against the wind. I caught one and saw that it was a gnat mostly surrounded by a white substance like mold. I don't know if that's fungus or if the gnat exudes the white stuff so predators leave it alone. I've tried googling this but nothing so far. Bike snobs are worse than wine snobs... get a kickstand!

Caffeine and cannabis does not work for everyone, for some people the caffeine can trigger a panic attack. People tend to just blame it on the weed but the stimulant caffeine added is the real reason it happened. People are different and the right recipe for fun is different for different people.
