You can hear the excitement from everyone in the background including Caridi because they knew the struggles the program had gone through and that is was on its way to being something special. One of my favorite memories of Mountaineer Football ever.

Most people talk of the 03 beatdown in Motown, but this is my favorite moment of the rivalry!

in 2002 and 2003 wvu used top ranked virginia tech among other teams to elavate its self to elite status and they did it using monster awesome defense. ... hail to the great wvu defensive teams of the past.

This is when college football was great. The Black Diamond Trophy is one of many perennial rivalries lost in the money chase of realignment.

i remember coming home to chateau royale that night after watching the game downtown, only to find the charred remains of the goal posts from mountaineer field in the large dumpsters near my apartment. lol
I know everyone is gonna hate me for this but i really want Rich Rodriguez back

Here's the thing. Prior to October 15, 2015 (the day Pat White entered the lineup after Adam Bednarik was injured in the Louisville game) Rich's record at WVU was 33-22 with an 0-3 record in bowl games. That's 60% which in high schoole may have gotten you a "D". He was an average coach. That was proven when you look at his overall records at Michigan and Arizona. Sure he had some "good" years but he was not the top tier coach many view him to be. Of course, I think (hope) this all becomes a moot point of discussion given the latest revelations from the desert. Now, I'm not saying we have a great coach now either, BUT, I do wish people who pine for Rich would just step back and look at the facts.. That 05-07 golden era was more attributable to some key players on the field than it was to Rich's great coaching acumen.

It was actually Nehlen's leftovers that were key to winning this game though !
