I started welding 46 years ago when I was 12 years old. I started on a Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC repairing logging equipment. I learned to weld vertical up, over head, down, and flat with 6011 and 6013. Never had a weld break. People underestimate AC welders and 6011/6013 and what they are capable of. DC and 6910/7018 is nice but not necessary for basic repairs. Good honest video. Happy New Year!!!

Problem is I used to consume thousands of lbs of 6010/8010...1/8 5/32... Welding rod. Some 3/32. Only have about 1000lbs left. How's that NBS Welding says. Well when a track units come back from a pipeline job. There are 2 to 6 36lb? case left on the machine. Have to go look at a tin. Not even opened. Every yr it starts to pile up. Great job on the videos keep them coming 👍👍
@bombardier3qtrlbpsi10 ай бұрын
The people will say of course it won't break. It will bend at it weakest link and that's where the hole ends. They will say it should of been a solid 1/2" plate. NBS welding I'm not in that category. I totally understand what you are doing.. 👍👍

I love it! From WVa I really like to know my source of information about anything that I take in. As a farmer welder the number 1 in the third place in a welding rod designate all position rod. It’s totally amazing how someone would trash a gasoline engine driven welding machine. On 9 out of 10 service trucks in southern Indiana they are miller bobcats or Trail Blazers machine the other one are Lincoln’s. So as you have proved the person speaking this nonsense wasn’t welder or he just uses a wire machine and would probably drive himself nuts trying to figure out where does the wire come out and where is the trigger hidden on a stringer. Good new years video.

I weld with what I have, mig tig or stick. If it safely holds, and does the job (success). I’m not a welder, however I do a crap ton of welding for work. CB, I enjoy your content, went back and watched every video. Awesome work my friend. Sorry to hear about your cat.

I always use 6013 rods, I live in a hot humid environment, I do fabrication in spurts, might do none for months, then I might burn rods for a week solid. For me, 7018 is just a pig of a rod to try and store and use in this environment for the way i work, and the 6013 can kick about the workshop for years and still weld perfectly. The strength difference between the rods doesn't matter a toss, I'm not welding space shuttles.

Well, there’s proof! And, as far as the gasoline engine drive welders are concerned, my original (I own my third one now) 2005 Lincoln Ranger 305G has 7650+ hours on it right now and I just used it two hours ago. Other than oil and filter changes, I’ve replaced the battery, the muffler and the circuit boards once. It’s never not been more than enough welder for the job and yes, I do weld on heavy equipment whenever the need arises.

Nice welding. Good job. Pipeline welders weld downhill with 6010 all the time. Tabs bend easier when they are hot. What would happen if it was frozen at 30 below ? Something (?) might break like glass.

Guess I haven't been in the right interweb chat forums.....bc I can't say that I've ever heard those things- (about 6010 downhill or using a Bobcat/Trailblazer) Your welds looked good and were obviously strong; but it feels a bit like you dug a ditch....to fill it in again 😂🤣
@gillihansmobilewelding10 ай бұрын
So, it said "ugly pass" but you never showed an ugly pass. 😊 Man, I use 6011 all day long and people always tell me i need to use 7018 instead. Most of the stuff i weld is 1/4" or below. I'm not welding anything critical either. I think you just felt like beating the sh!t out of something today.😅 Thanks for the video!
@NBSWELDING10 ай бұрын
You'll notice the 6011/6010 (any cellulose based rod) as being brittle when stitch welding...stitch welding is where 6010 welds might have more of a tendency to crack than 7018...and 7018 will do a better job to purify unknown or dissimilar steels with its heavy low hydrogen fluxing ability. But when you weld solid all the way around something with 6010 then there is nowhere for cracking to start so it's very strong when ran well. Thanks for watching and commenting

Oh no your supposed to use 3 /32 6010 that's what all the pipe welders use lol,, then cap it with 7018 lol most of them never use 5/32 7018 because they dont know how to vertical weld with a big rod

What would be better about spending more time running a smaller diameter rod that deposits metal slower while wasting time and energy making piles of slag...can you explain how doing that would improve anything I don't know what else could be done to make the point any clearer yet somehow someone still doesn't get it
