Me being a theatre kid you have to know this. Mean Girls was on Broadway in 2019 as a musical then shut down due to COVID and never reopened. It went on a North American tour which did great but not great enough. The tour shut down as well and is reopening VERY soon as a non equity tour. The new movie is based off that 2019 musical
